I'd have to drive the cars back to back to make a determination since they're very close in specs. Not having driven both I'd have to give the IS the nod for RWD.
However the IS does not have a moonroof, leather, or heated stocks included in the stock price so it is really more like a $31000 car to the TSX's $26500. Being an enthusiast I probably wouldn't get that stuff anyway though. And assuming I could afford either car easily money may not necessarily be a factor. I still don't think the IS is $5k better of a car though. So if money was an issue: TSX Money no object: IS Used: IS

UMMM lets see...you can make horsepower with either car. But the 6 gives you the torque. I prefer not having to highrev to generate any power. But that's just me. My brother just bought an '04 3.5 Maxima over the IS300, but the TSX wasn't even a consideration.
But if you're going to buy an IS300, why not just buy a year older GS400 with the V-8? I had a chance to drive my uncle's GS400. Let's just say, once you get past the fact that it's bad ass, it's also fast a shit. Plus, navigation to impress your girlfriends and enough room for you and 3 other full sized people. And not the trendy tail lights.

i love the GS400 but i would prefer a manual tranny option. plus, no amount of power or rubber is going to hide the weight of a car that size.
regardless, its badass

GS400 is a bloated luxobarge... nice if you're into that sort of thing.
TSX still has nimble handling and a sweet engine, same as the IS. I'd take either of them over the GS400 anyday. My mom's ES300 is like driving an appliance, its too quiet, disconnected from the road.

i think the mazda 6s and the tsx are a closer comparison than the is300, mainly becasue tof the rwd.....
09-14-2004, 12:19 AM
i really like the character of the TSX. it seems to reward the driver with solid reflexes and an engine that is comfortable parusing around town or at the redline. plus the standard features are plentiful and its a honda, so it will never die.
on the flipside, i cant deny toyota stoutness and a rwd chassis that comes with the IS. straight sixes are wonderful engines...despite the relatively low power output i bet its smooth as silk and has good torque. its also got a firm aftermarket following and looks gorgeous. id have to test drive both to really decide but im almost positive i would choose rwd over fwd.
