Yea you gotta remember though that they are usually upgrading tire size to increase overall size with some very heavy tires. Like joey said, when adding a larger wheel to a car, you usually go lower prfile tires and changing one inch would probably not affect a gearing that much anyways even you were going bigger overall.
Stock trucks and suvs come with sizes ranging from 29 to 31 and wranglers are at the lower end for off the shelf ones and the jeep performance packaged jeeps have gears to handle the tires. So to answer your question, technically no if you do it right as joey said since you will run lower profile tires but yes finishing with an overall bigger diameter will result in gearing issues. Dramatic changes that is. Like my truck came with 31's and now has 37's so it lost some power to the ground but changing a 29 to a 30 will not have as great of a negative impact.

9s. 17x9. Fit perfectly but do need a good bit of work with a polisher. If I have way too much time ill polish em before nationals (likelihood....0)

what about satin black dsiis? i have a set lying around that need to be refinished..... might just repaint them black for shits and giggles. chris's looked pretty cool, i wonder what theyd look like on my cosmos....

DSII's do not look bad but spray painting them, even powder coating them just makes the car look cheap and ricey. That is just my opinion though. I am a fan of black rims so much so that I bought brand new MT Classics, and before even considering having them mounted, sent them off for powder coating, but DSII's do not give the car the same look as they do when they are silver. Spray painted wheels never last either. The only way to do it is to powder coat and then you might as well just buy new replica wheels.

DSII's look cool because they're epic-ly 90s. I think Chris' painted black ones look the exact opposite of cool.

so what size tired would you guys recommend with 18s? i kinda have a hard on for those bbs wheels now. since i have two sets of oems might just sell them and get these

All depends on the width. Assuming this is a street setup

Anything wider than 9" needs a 35 profile. ie : 18x9.5 255/35. 245/35 is whack, you'll be stretching

18x9 - 245/40

18x8.5 - 235/40 or 245/40

18x8 - 225/45 or 235/40

I ran 18s on my old wrx with 8" and 8.5". I ran 235s on both sets

Wrong in my experience, properly painted lasts a long time and is resilient. I actually have problems with powdercoating, powerdercoating doesnt like impacts. (such as rocks hitting the wheel). Everybody's experience tends to differ on powdercoating.

yea I haven't had an issue with painting wheels either. I think the biggest problem is people not taking the time to prep the wheels, they wash them off and then spray them. Also depends on the amount of coats you put on the wheels, something that is going to see the wear and tear of a wheel nees more then a couple of coats, try 4-5 coats. The jeeps wheels are painted and put 4-5 coats of paint on and they look just as good as they did when I painted them.

FYI- Most factory wheels are painted, not powdercoated....

I know factory wheels are painted, should have been more clear, unless prepped right like justin said, they don't last and most people are not sure how to prep for paint. There are a few steps/precations that most people do not catch most of the time.

Correct my earlier post with the only way to do is powder coat because the wheels get prepped right or know what your doing when spray painting them.

All I'm really saying is don't spray paint DSII's
