welcome to the forum. Always to see others with grand schemes and devious plots. As for the idea of the H22 swap, its an interesting thought and I can't say I don't support being different, but you might be getting yourself into something that you won't enjoy. Being that I've been down that road, let me talk to ya at the meeting or sometime before you start buying stuff or get too excited/certain on everything. I won't force you to change your mind, but I might try to persuade you to change a few thoughts Big Grin

the sig should answer one of your questions above

H22A can't boost for a number of reasons, unless it's built.
H22A's have a Fiber Reinforced Matrix (FRM) liners plus narrow ring lands which means anything over 8 lbs of boost will blow your rings. But that really won't be an issue cause you won't be able to fit any turbo kit into the hatch. The owner of Evolution Autosports in Chantilly use to have one but it was all fabbed up by his guys. I remember the radiator support had to be cut and welded farther up the car. When I said suspension modifications earlier, I meant not just shocks and springs, I meant Lower Control Arms, poly bushings, and I think the factory sway won't work. Some other crap too. I'm sorry to sound some adamantly against the H22A Hatch, but I've thought about that too at one point. It's nice but costs a lot of change to get done. I built my motor for turbo and it has cost me 5-6k in parts. It would've been more had I not supplied the labor.

In summation, get a 300zx twin turbo. Greatest Jap Car available in the States (I do recognize the Supra Turbo as a BMF) in my humble opinion. I would've bought that car had my driving record been better.

^You go from talking about why not to attempt an H22 hatch swap to advocating the purchase of a tt 300zx because it is the greatest japanese car available in the states?

I fail to see the connection.

H22 in a hatch creates quite a few issues, with mounts, clearances, the shifter, the wiring, etc. Rebuilding a H22 is expensive due to the FRM sleeves and cannot be bored more than .020" over. 4th gen gearboxes are good, but nearly impossible to find and the synchros suck for track use.

The swaybars, LCA's, bushings do not require modification... Its more weight up front (about 85 lbs over a b18, over 100 lbs over a D16) so you need to set up the suspension around that. I dont know about the boost issue, but due to the FRM sleeves the rings are soft so I could see it being a problem - but I dont have any experience with it so I cant say one way or the other.

If you can make it work, I'm sure its a great setup, but IMHO its not worth the expense and hassle.

wow ive been a member here for how long and you've already killed my dream :? haha. Anyway we will see, who knows what will happen. Who knows maybe ill drop a k20 in there  haha I wish. 300 zx is a beauty, but if i was gonna get a diff car, assuming it wasnt a honda, it would probably be a Rx7. Ive already had a spot in my heart for those  . Haha im really excited to meet you guys now, considering ive been on here for a day and posted more times on here than i would have on HT for like a month. Not to mention this website has provided another great source for procrastination tonight Big Grin

I didn't mean to mess with you. I'm building an h22a for boost right now. I personally like h motors more than b series. Regarding trans though, you can get a J-spec trans for 250.
The LCA on hatches doesn't work well with the extra weight. I only know of two h22a hatches personally, and the problem they have with them is the bushings get destroyed in them. Poly bushings help but someone makes a redesigned race lca that holds up much better.

Poly bushings in a honda suspension is a bad idea. Stick with rubber... they dont last forever and need replacement eventually. The extra weight wont help, but if they were already worn out...

If you pull out power steering, a/c, etc then the net weight gain isnt much at all.

H22A engine, 5-sp tranny, upper header, and alternator weigh 475lbs. That weight does not include any other accessories.

a low-end 4-door (lx or dx if they made them) is actually probably lighter.

it jsut so happens that i have the sport compact car 300zx buying guide sittin right here so....looks like the average value for a 5 speed hardtop is anywhere from 7k to 14k depending on the year and milage. don't buy a 96 though, the smog crap they had to put on the engine pulled power down to an unofficial 280 hp.
