If a person wants an SUV and can afford it and all that goes with it...why hate? I love my Grand...but it does love the fuel.

-I can't see around them on the highway
-I can't see around them pulling out of a parking spot
-People drive them like their cars
-They have a knack or blind spots that motorcycles can hide in

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth

Sounds like a personal problem - I like driving my fathers SUV.

you can't see around them? Or do you not like the fact you can't see through their windows to see what is in front of them?

around them would be ... around the car ? over top, to the left and to the right.

through the back window and through their windshield.. through..

I see no problem w/ SUVs and for your motorcycle blind spots.. that is YOUR fault for putting yourself in a blind spot of the soccer mom cars

I don't put myself there but again... I'm being asked to go over and above what would be asked of me with a car because of THEIR choice in vehicle.

I don't think the problem is the SUV. The problem is the ambivalence of the general populus and how little attention they pay to what is going on around them.

The existence of a blind spot on a car is something that really cannot be completely eliminated. The problem is that people as a general rule are not aware of what is going on 5 feet from their face, so they haven't noticed you approaching for the past two miles and don't make any effort to look and see if something is there before they try to occupy a point in space.

when the rationale many people buy these vehicles is because in a wreck they will be safter because it will hurt the other guy more, its everyones problem.

but at least the high seating position and "insulation from the road" promotes them to pay attention to the road even less

Bigger is not better Wink A new honda civic probably crashes better than that thing.

I didnt say that I believed it, becasue Ive seen the crash tests of body on frame trucks. But I know way too many people buy trucks and SUVs because they think bigger = safer.
But you still cant get away from F= MV^2. So whoever they hit is fucked too.

Chris, I agree with you 100000%. Whats even better is the "I can't see around them so I'll get something bigger so I can see around them" attitude.

What's sad is the first thing I thought when Evan posted his new car was "Man I couldn't DD that 'cause it would seriously lose when getting hit by a 6000lb SUV."

A good read from a good author:

For a whole bunch of hardcore Republicans you guys sure don't mind dictating what is OK for other people to drive. I'm 100% with Dave on this one - focus on driver improvement, not Nazi safety standards. Guns don't kill people, people kill people, same goes with cars and SUVs. I'm a lot more scared of a 17y/o in a Honda Civic with a cell phone in hand texting away than a 35y/o Mom in a Suburban.

-I can't see around them on the highway - so don't merge into their blind spot or try to dart around them to the right.
-I can't see around them pulling out of a parking spot - back out slowly.
-People drive them like their cars - so?
-They have a knack or blind spots that motorcycles can hide - once again, don't linger in an SUV's (or any vehicle's) blind spot.

when the rationale many people buy these vehicles is because in a wreck they will be safter because it will hurt the other guy more, its everyones problem. - it's not a completely invalid theory. Fact: no matter how great of a driver you are or what type of car you drive, either you or someone else will most likely force you into a set of conditions at some point that causes you to be in an accident. Fact: larger cars win against smaller cars in accidents - if you don't believe me look up Land Rover Civic crash on youtube. Tell me what car you would want to be in.

And that SHO is baller.

just because i dont like Obama and the rest of the liberals means i'm a republican. hell... modern republicans dont even know what it means to be a republican.

you notice a lot more piss poor driving when you ride a motorcycle. the Prius people are just as bad as the SUV people.

You're kinda missing the point. No one is dictating anything, we just don't agree with their choices and wish they would make different ones for the sake of the greater good.

Again, you're asking me to change my behavior because of a choice you made. So much for personal freedom.
