The problem with bailing out the GSEs is that the stockholders benefit at the cost of tax payers. There are two options that work: split the 2 GSEs into 18 or 20 different publicly held companies so the $5 trillion is spread out further and lower leverage can be achieved. Or when they go bankrupt (i.e. virtually know common stock value), the government can make them actual government agencies. They dual-handedly make the mortgage market liquid, and it's way too risky to have all of that market making power in the hands of two firms.

I don't think we've seen the bottom yet, so hold onto your cash. The low point will probably be in ~2 months, where I expect it to be ~9k.

You should spend your cash. You should be helping the economy.

I don't hate America, just the troops.

dont hold onto cash, unless you like holding onto a fiat currency that will soon see hyperinflation. Buy gold bullion, great hedge against inflation and itll prolly rise in value to boot

gold is starting its own bubble. of course, that means you just have to sell it before it pops.....
Hyper monetary inflation is kind of pushing it. But I guess if you're shooting for a job on Fox networks....

Yes but you hear how their shitting on AIG? A base rate based on England's rate which I beleive is 2-3 percent right now plus an 8.5% punitive rate on top of that for 3 month interest. They are just basically loaning. Who knows, if everyone would stop freaking out.
Then rumors spread about Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley. Both companies are going wtf? We are fine, they were not idiots and beleive it would never burst and have plenty of cash on hand for the writedowns. They will come out fine according to them, but of course we dont have their knowledge. However it may be a hint because Morgan Stanley is in talks with Wachovia to merge and Gao Xiqing may be going for more stock, up from his 9% that he gained in december. Who knows, itd be interested to see how this may mean goldman sachs is something to invest in once the markets stabilize.
We have not hit rock bottom but its far from as bad as rumors are starting to circulate. Evan is right, gold is up hardcore and is going to continue, I cant wait till people figure out its more than its worth.
