Because it doesnt capture the edge of the pin and drive it out like a 8mm rolled pin punch will. If its not the right size, it wont work well either.

I've only removed about 20 of these fucking things.

I have one of those Mike and it is great. It definitely saves a bunch of trips. Even nicer when Alison is out and about already and I can have her pick up a bolt by the exact specs I need.

Because sometimes using the right tool will make it easier, get it done faster, and not risk fucking anything else up in the process. That's how its different :-).

Mike, grow some sack and get wet. Working in the rain isn't THAT bad if you're under the car. It was raining the whole day when I changed the trans fluid and exhaust on the truck. I was miserable from rolling around on gravel, but the wetness wasn't really a problem. I got smart and put down some cardboard and then I was a happy man.

why? when i don't have to? i'll gladly go for a run in a monsoon, but working on a car/fumbling for tools/having trouble seeing while getting drenched does not sound like a fun time.

I'm just saying it really isn't that bad if you're so bummed out that your schedule it getting pushed back. I realize you're not on a true deadline, but you can make set it up in such a manner that working in the rain isn't that miserable and stay on your timeline.

Did you get the "bitch pin" out yet? If not, and the car still has the stock airbox, use the bolts that fasten the airbox to the body of the car.

Perfect size for the shift linkage pin... yeah i'm ghetto, so what?

i actually read that on ht as well. it does have the stock airbox, but after ordering the punch, i want to use it. also, weather hasn't cooperated the past 2 days (and tonight it seems) so no time has been lost to the bitch.

Those airbox bolts will deform if the bitch pin is stuck in there.

You guys are some cheap bastards about buying the right tools.

8mm punch was a failure. i ended up just pulling off the whole f'ing arm. it'll be much easier to destroy that fucking pin with it out from underneath the car. how in the hell is one supposed to line up two flat 8mm pieces of metal and put power in to a sledge without them slipping a bit? f'ing ridiculous.

So Caitlin goes away the first week in August (I'll need a car to dick around/pick up parts in while I'm reinstalling these guys). Anyone available to give me a hand with pulling (literally just dropping them out, I'll have them completely undone) and lining up the trannies? I'd expect it to be an hour job, tops. You will sweat, you will get dirty, but I pay nicely in beer and pizza/thai/outback.

Aug 5 is best, but whatever works for you.

Love,
Mike

I'm not going to buy your pile Tongue but I can probably help out.

If you have an unmounted tire (to drop the trans on) and a jack (to lift the trans back up with) the job is easier.

Do you need any tools? I've got bitch pin punches and a ball joint popper.

i do have an unmounted tire (or 10) and i do have a jack. i could use a piece of wood for lifting the trans up, though.

no worries on not buying it; i was gonna cut you a nice deal... i'll get quite a bit more from a mexican Smile

so wtf, i've rechecked 15 times that i have every bolt out. front end of the trans is fully clear, but the rear won't budge much at all. i'm using ~12" screwdrivers... are pry bars necessary?
