my guess: one count of possibly felony hit and run for each car hit, but good luck proving DUI since they waited all night for the guy to come back out of his apartment...kinda hard to prove intoxication at the time of the accident...

Thayer, I'm truly sorry to see such a prized possession in such a terrible state.

My advice to you on this:
-go to court and speak up when this peice of shit is in front of the judge. If you don't you'll regret it forever. We went but didn't speak up, and the peice of crap that hit us barely got reprimanded (in my opinion).

-explain to the adjuster what this truck meant to you. The property adjuster I worked with was terrific and worked with me the best that he could. You just lost a juge peice of sentimental value and should be compensated for it. I don't know if you should explain that you'll be buying it back, but I absolutely think the truck is salvagable and it will mean that much more to you as a result

-for everybody else that hopes he gets what he deserves, I hope you believe in Karma too, b/c the U.S. judicial system isn't going to fix him. All of the commercials about drinking and driving, losing your license and going to jail are a joke unless the person has a record of it (a college kid most likely doesnt) and even then don't count on it. The 19 year old that hit us had a pending DUI when he rammed into me and judge still only gave him a small fine and a couple days in jail.

I'm glad you are OK Thayer and it pleases me to see that the truck is definitely able to be saved, given your skills with a wrench. I feel your pain but don't count on this douchebag learning anything from it.





castration would be an awesome punishment for a DUI. An obvious carelessness for the lives and property of others should mean that you can no longer be capable of creating it.

Insurance adjuster came and looked at it and totaled it. The frame in the front isn't so much bent at an angle as it is twisted around (think indian burn). We had considered the idea of swapping the interior over to another truck, etc, but it still wouldn't be the same. After a few days my mom came to the realization that she didn't want to fix it. She couldn't stand to have it sit at her house and have to look at it until I could get it fixed, so we are going to pull out the major stuff that has centimental value and keep that, and I'm trying to sell the truck for parts right now. She is of the mentality that it was not meant to be. If it was meant to be, it wouldn't have been hit, and neigther of us have the time or money to fix it. So the insurance company cut me a check for $4900 and I got it in the mail the other day. Truck is still at the appt, I'm pulling the stereo out tomorrow, as well as all Dad's tools and belongings. I hate to see it go but at some point you just have to face that it's gone and even if you fixed it it still wouldn't be the same.

Wow... well, I'm sorry to hear that. I guess the rash of retards that have hit folks in our club lately just gives reality to the shit driver situation in the country.

It's good that you can at least salvage certain things from it. At least they're only things. You can't replace everything, of course, but health is hard to get back sometimes.
