Snow makes driving more fun.
I thought this was funny:
Not only did a leave at 10:30ish this morning, I noticed people taking the time to "de-snow" there windows. I was thinking to myself? Hrmm should I do this too? I opted for the lazy way out and turned the car on, hit the front and rear wipers a few times, rolled the windows up and down, pulled out and spun the tires all the way up P-run.
5 Minutes later I arrived at work. Yay for living 2 miles from work.
This is my second year driving in snow, I really need to hook my ABS back up
no traffic for me this morning, but then again i was at work by 6

Really? I couldn't seem to use my brakes at all, I had to downshift at every stop and use the brakes at 5MPH or less, anything above that I was locked up and sliding. Maybe this is normal?

A car WILL stop more quickly in snow with all 4 wheels locked than a car with ABS and the brakes fully applied. This is due to the fact that snow piles in front of the skidding tire as the car slows. However, you are a lot more likely to go sideways when you brake without ABS and lose control of the car. I prefer ABS in the snow but I assume its a matter of preference like anything else.
On a more personal note, 2 hour commute this morning to go 30 miles - the Rabbit is pretty sweet in the snow. Traction control FTW!
Why do people just post what they are thinking? Without thinking.

i haven't tried yet, but i have summer tires with no ABS - the only thing that would be more fun would be RWD
abs is only helpful when you're trying to change direction, not stop the vehicle (snow, ice, rain, whatever) ...c'mon - you guys should know that
miata + all seasons = unstoppable in the snow... at least until the front bumper turns into a plow. I never got stuck in my '99

Oh right. Your turbos will blow up instead is driving on oil slipperier than ice?
Long answer: My quick research suggests oil has a coefficient of friction of 0.025 while ice can be 2-6x higher.
Short answer: Yes
Now about oil on ice....

If you're referring to a situation where you are driving in a foot of snow, maybe, but I'm still highly doubtful that some snow is going to stop thousands of pounds of momentum (unless you are on pure ice). Anything less and there's no way you are going to slow down do to snow piling up. If your wheel isn't turning it's going to just turn the patch directly below it into ice instantly due to the pressure and all you'll do is slide. All the wheel is at that point is a sled runner.
For example, find a slick road and hit your brakes to lock and turn your wheel. You will only go straight. Let off the brakes just enough for the wheel to turn and you'll start turning. This is because a rolling wheel stops better than a stationary one.

That's when you need to drive that truck! It doesn't matter if you go off road then, you just bounce right back up onto the road :-).

I rode my motorcycle in to work today. In a fit of arrogance, i didn't think the snow was going to last. I got a ride home with a co-worker who drove. Passed four wrecks going in, took my more than an hour to go 21 miles. Bridges were scary, had a few fishtails but I held it together.
