OMG snow. - PDenbigh - 12-05-2007 Oh my. There's a 1/2" of this white powdery slippery stuff all over the place! What is it?! !?! Glad they canceled Rockingham county schools. Getting to work was the worst! My truck's rear end was sideways more than straight. Every time I FLOORED it I slid! I had to come into our office parking lot at full lock! Sure wish I had 4wd. Or wait, is that what that cool knob is on my dash? Big props to all the drivers out there that somehow managed to bring their car to a stop from the blazing 5 mph they were going on the main, cleared, salted road. Edit 1: If one more person at my office comes in all excited about their trip to work, and talking about their near death experiences, I'm going to loose it. Or on second thought, I think the most appropriate thing to do is to take them for a drive in my truck. Maybe they just need to redefine "near death." @#$@#$! Edit 2: "NO. YOU MAY NOT TAKE OFF WORK FOR 15 MINUTES TO GO HELP YOUR WIFE DRIVE HER CAR DOWN A 10' LONG SLOPE AT THE DOCTORS OFFICE!!!!!!!!!"" Edit 3: Shit. Even my own Fiance called me to tell me how exciting her drive was. Granted, she does drive a Miata which is more like a sled in the snow than a car, but seriously. Have I taught you nothing Alison!? - BLINGMW - 12-05-2007  we woke up to a light dusting too! Good thing I had the chains on the mini :evileye: - .RJ - 12-05-2007  well done pete ![]() Quote:My truck's rear end was sideways more than straight Is this not normal operation for you? - PDenbigh - 12-05-2007 Email sent to the staff: "Good Morning Guys, Yes, itÔÇÖs snowing. We may get 2ÔÇØ of snow today! Unfortunately, I donÔÇÖt accept snow excuses for tardiness until thereÔÇÖs at least 6ÔÇØ of snow out there and then itÔÇÖd better be a darn good excuse. If your car canÔÇÖt move or you donÔÇÖt feel comfortable driving, call the office BEFORE you should be here and one of the many 4x4 drivers will come get you. If you lack the ability to drive in the snow weÔÇÖre not responsible for your crashes. Call one of us, weÔÇÖll come get you. Thanks, Your ever loving VP ;-)." Its nice. All the brown people live way out in the sticks (assburn, gainesville, south riding). Of course with IBM's "policy" here of no working from home, they'd rather these guys waste 2 hrs each way in traffic to come into the office instead of just WFH. - Apoc - 12-05-2007 think of the childrennnnnnnn.... noooooooo........!!!!!!!!! - Hunter - 12-05-2007 We got about a foot on monday/tuesday, but nothing up here was canceled ![]() - Evan - 12-05-2007 Ive never seen anything like the traffic this morning. And Ive done long commutes for many years. 2+ hour commute this morning (normally 35 minutes) it would have been much worse, except I was stuck in traffic so long that the HOV lanes opened up which allowed me to bypass 495 and GW parkway and cut out at least another 2 hours worth of traffic. Accumulation was low, but the roads were in fact pretty slippery. Driving down a hill I found myself opposite lock and looking out my passenger side window for no good reason. - Apoc - 12-05-2007 I didn't have any issues this morning but there were a lot of reports of black ice. I don't care how good of a driver you are, that shit sucks. Combine that with overall shitty driving population and you have trouble. The worst day I ever had was 2.5 hours to get from Leesburg to Fair Oaks. It was a day a lot like this, where the snow had just started to accumulate, and we basically crawled at 10mph for 20 miles. - Ginger - 12-05-2007 I was kind of surprised - Reston, at least my route to work, zero salting/clearing. It kind of reminded me of ice skating. I was surprised that I only saw one off-road-visit, too. It was kind of annoying being beared-down-on by SUV drivers who think that 4 wheel drive helps them stop as well as go. - Apoc - 12-05-2007 4WD can nevaR lose! - PDenbigh - 12-05-2007 Evan Wrote:Accumulation was low, but the roads were in fact pretty slippery. Go drive your Miatas. Then come back and talk about slippery ;-). Hook up your video camera too... - HAULN-SS - 12-05-2007 took me 1:50 to get to work this morning, travelling 50 miles. Saw 3 wrecks, and one upside down car. I had about a 2 second opp/lock going on one time on a bridge, but other than that, no issues. I attribute that more to my balding tires than anything. - Dave - 12-05-2007 Linds saw one car almost wreck in front of her b/c people are retarded. Mine was uneventful, I did lose some traction once. Turbo + ice = fun. - BLAIR - 12-05-2007 snowing out here on the eastern shore too  but i dont need snow to have fun loosing traction haha - ScottyB - 12-05-2007 ![]() i got to scrape my windshield this morning. i miss snow... - Jeff - 12-05-2007 I had little problem making it to school today. Only one exception, and it was due to my driving to fast on an uncleared side road. My larger problems are these... BALD Goodyear Eagle LS' 13psi 250ft/lbs FWD Heavy Car transmission (high gears, can't take off in second) If I put some better tires on it (the stock 14in w/ all seasons) it will be a snowmobile. - stevegula - 12-05-2007 whiney women is all I hear in this thread. I got in my truck, drove to work. Some of the roads were cleared, some weren't. Took 15 minutes. Pretty much business as usual. |
