a white horse theif, a white man helping free the slaves, a white man that wasnt racist and had black friends would be hung, a white anything marrying a black person... hands down the white person is getting hung too. it was the perfered way to execute someone in the south for a very long time. And you cant tell me the clan didnt attack whites that supported the civil rights movement.

three nuses in a tree, without any terms written out cant be considered a hate crime. a burning cross, thats another story. So if you can consider the rope in a tree a hate crime, why cant you consider 6 black guys kicking the shit out of a white guy a hate crime? i'm pretty sure 6 white guys kicking the shit out of a black guy could be considered a hate crime...

Beat up a kid in school, go to juvy/suspension/expulsion. 6 on 1 gets jail time considering the consequences/situation. The kid was 16 and got 20 years by an all white jury. Come on.

i do see a trend... BUT they were hung as well. if a white person killed anyone and was convicted they would be hung as well.

and FYI, to get an attempted murder charge all you have to prove is that the person getting beat up feared for their life. attempted murder charges dont have the clause of proving intent by the attacker like a murder charge does.

Nobody's being charged with a hate crime.

The protestors say that the white kids that hung the nooses should have been charged with a hate crime. They are also saying that it's a racially oriented fight against the Jena 6... that the court proceedings are, in essence, themselves a representation of Black Hate.

*edit* I missed the all white jury part.

I think it's absurd that people are calling this Hate Anything, at least in the racial sense. When 6 guys send another guy to the hospital I don't really care if they're all green - they deserve to be charged with attempted murder. 6 on one isn't a fair fight and all the smack, pesudo macho talking really goes out the window when you're getting the crap kicked out of you. Also, saying the kid got a black eye, I think, is downplaying the extent of his injuries. The article Kaan posted said he went to the hospital with damage to both eyes and both ears (also - consider - attempted murder doesn't mean he he almost died. Attempted murder means you took deliberately took actions that would result in the death of another person... if you shoot somebody and miss they don't drop the charges because the guy you were trying to shoot wasn't hurt).

They were ONLY hung because of their association, etc with someone thats black. If they had killed another cracka ass cracka? I'd doubt they would get the noose, but my civil war history is fuzzy.

any person was hung in this country from its inseption until hanging was deemed cruel and unusual punishment... for ANY capitol crime. And for almost 150 years a capitol crime could be anything from rape, murder, bank robbery, to shop lifting at the general store in town.

your 'civil war' (has nothing to do with the civil war) history is well beyond fuzzy.

the klan and other hate groups did not focus only on blacks, they terrorized catholics, fags, mormons, and pretty much anyone not white and protestant.

Are we having a history lesson? I thought the message of a noose hanging from a tree was pretty clear in current culture. Does anybody really believe that they hung the nooses to show contempt for the Klan that that, 20 years ago, hung somebody's gay uncle? The racial orientation of that action seems pretty freaking clear to me....

It may or may not be attempted murder, but that depends on the details of the beating. Did they continue to beat him non stop until they were wrestled off of him or did they stop voluntarily when he was bloodied up? How aggressive and animated were they, and were they making death threats?
"We gonna kill you" + 6 guys on 1 + nonstop beating = attempted murder, there is no question.
if those factors were not present, then some high level of assault IMO is appropriate

what sickens me more than anything is the race issue that this has become. cultural relativism at its core, had 6 white kids beat up 1 black kid it would be a hate crime and the media would be outraged with those hateful racist white people.
