A lot of players make this transition, just not to as much of an extent. Did he juice? I have no doubt in my mind that he did. Is he still one of the greatest players ever? No doubt.

And to be fair, he was never really truly a slap hitter. His second year in the league he hit 25 home runs. He consistently hit for power, just not slugger type numbers. And again, he won two NL MVPs before 1993. I mean its not like he was just some average player before he started jacking home runs (he also won 7 gold gloves so he wasn't to shabby on defense).

I dunno. Personally I think the guy is a dick and a liar. But he is still one of the best, if not the best player of his generation.

thats what makes me hate him more. its not like he was a bad player then juiced and then was amazing. he was already one of the greatest players in the history of baseball. he was heading for the hall of fame well before he was suspected of taking steroids. but he basically said fuck everyone, i want to be in the spotlight and go even further. he's a piece of shit in my opinion

I personally hate barry bonds, obviously, but if i were to have an unbiased opinion and argue for or against him being the best player of our era....The only big thing holding him back from that status, is he doesnt have a ring. Which i feel as a necessity when saying someone is the greatest player of all his generation.

when A-Rod overpasses barry in the upcoming years i'll be happy.

i love watching baseball and i'll keep watching it. the steriod incidences have blemished its reputation, but nothing will hurt as bad as the strike in '94. Since then the ratings and attendance have recovered and i have heard that they are even surpassing what it as been in the past.

As much as steroids has been a factor in the home-run race and in other professional baseball performances Barry Bonds is far from a bad player. Consistently excellent fielding/batting performances (8 gold gloves and 7 MVP awards), great base running in his younger years, and consistent homerun numbers (with the exception of the 73 in 2001 and years he was hurt). I'll give him his credit and until he's proven guilty of steriod use or admits that he unknowingly or knowingly took steriods, i think his performance through the years is warranted. I'd much prefer to see a better role model where there is no accusation of illegal performance enhancing drugs take the homerun king title and i think that will happen when/if Alex Rodriguez does it, if he can remain healthy.
