see, that's fucking insane. The corvette should be at the top of the list for cars that are "just cheap enough i still have to worry about my insurance rate when I buy it" before you step into the league of porsches and up where you dont care about insurance rates - not some silly japanese 4 door with a turba

What is your insurance rate, by the way? I know they considered my legacy a "high performance vehicle" and hiked my rate a little bit. I will say state farm did help me out by not making me insure it for my herndon address - so being garaged back home, i think my rate is something like 120$/mo, full coverage, 250$ deducitible on everything.

It'll still takeyears for the rates go down even if they do ugly up the car, the motor will be basically the same right? so they're going to have to wait for kids to stop buying them, thus stop wrecking them before any rates go down. Seems like they would be just as well off if anything to kick the car UP into the next market, that can afford the insurance.

WRXtranceformed Wrote:Well they're probably losing a lot of business due to the boy-racers who wreck them like it's their job and cause the insurance rates on them to be laughable. By toning down the looks into something more mature / less tunerish, maybe they're trying to retarget their market and make it more appealing to the majority of people who buy cars, who are family men/women.

Well, its easy to call everyone who buys these cars a "boy racer". I'm sure there are those that buy them for the image and status, but as we know many, if not most buy them for their performance value as enthusiasts. And can you blame them? Look at how the STi is marketed these days. Its geared towards performance minded young people, not rich middle aged men, that was in the 90's. Correct me if I'm wrong, but 10 years ago I don't think there was a Mazda "zoom zoom" program that sells an image of sportiness to consumers, they let the RX7 do the talking, and same with other manufacturers. Subaru (and Mitsu) had to of known that young men were going to buy these cars and auto-x them and track them and AWD dorifto them into trees causing insurance rates to go higher, but I just wish a company, especially Subaru, would have the balls to continute producing these cars in spite of this. I just see the whole segment of the automotive industry as a whole degrading as of recent and its unfortunate, whom ever is to blame.

I don't think subaru is really worried too much about the insurance rates. I think it's as simple as subaru not trying to drive away the average customer rather than trying to attract the enthusiast. With how well the STI has done here, I bet the regular wrx is going to become a lot more tame in it's styling than before, while the STI version will be the one directed at enthusiast market.

I don't remember what the STi breaks down to monthly, but I can tell you between the STi and IS (both on the top 10 highest vehicles to insure list) my 6 month premium is **get ready for all of you to gasp in terror for me**

$1900. Yes, that's $3800 / year for full coverage on two vehicles. My driving record is less than spotless, but by the end of this year it will be down dramatically because of a couple of reasons:
1) I turn 25 in a month
2) The STi should be sold by June
3) By October a couple of tickets will have been stricken from the record

I think I pay $1300/yr for the Miata and the WRX. That's with a clean record, tho.

But thats my point....Subaru already has the Legacy, Tribeca, Forester, etc etc for those people looking for a practical car, why should they have to tone done the WRX/STi? They already have several other cars for those people. The WRX/STi is the only real performance oriented car they have, it just doesn't make sense to me why they would want to tone it down. If they had half a brain, they would make it even more raw to exploit the recent upscale transformation of the Evo.

omg...that's a TON. Is there anyway you can drop that by taking off collission coverage? or do you have loans on each title?

I see what you're saying. I guess I'm referring to what most other manufacturers are doing, for example how BMW keeps making the M3 fatter and not quite as sexy but damn fast. I wonder if this stock wrx is going to be pushing out hp numbers significantly higher than it is now. Anyway I have to see it in not hatchcrap form, it looks even uglier that my subaru right now.

If it got stolen you would be screwed then.

That new WRX Wagon looks like this:

We all had a hissy fit when Subaru teamed with Alfa Romeo and now this... Subaru seems to be targeting baby boomers loaded with retirement money.

Everything is getting safer, fatter, and less human interaction. Cars parking themselves? Yes, we are lazy bastards, but a huge chunk of our population want and need these cushy features. There is nothing we can do about it, unless Americans stop being obese, and get on the treadmill. It takes more bolstering, money, and weight to stop a fat man, than a skinny man. Thus more R&D and eventually getting farther and farther from raw racing vehicles like the E30 M3.

Apparently there will be a hatch-wagon thing and a sedan, but only the sedan will come to the States. And the STi will only be availabe as a hatch-wagon thing. Does that mean its not coming here?

So much for getting rid of the "boy racer" look! This one looks ten times better than the plain wagon

I don't think it looks too bad, a lot better than some of the prospects that first arose. Not to mention it sounds like they've been able to lose some weight in changing around the look.

STI is supposed to be unveiled at the NY auto show on the 5th. Should be interesting...

I've kinda been thinking about taking a day trip up for the show since there are going to be several world debuts of some cool cars there, anyone up for a road trip?
