Yes, all the time. Especially a '95. It's what the market will bear. It's not like it's Camry where you can say "Why is your M3 better than the half dozen M3's next door?" With an M3, the guy's gonna say "Well, go buy that M3, I'll sell this one to someone else."

i agree with you Jack

frankly i'd really consider buying this car if it were closer to me Tongue

man that car will be so much fun in the snow and on all the great driving roads around chicago, yay stop and go traffic - that is exactly why you told me you didn't want a nice car in chicago. I don't really see how any of this has changed.

now that i reminded you of what you said, i can tell you what you want to hear. You still have to drive a fair amount for work and with all that time behind the wheel wouldn't you want to at least enjoy the drive.

besides if you expect me to be seen driving around with you in chicago, you better believe I want to be in that M3 not the hooptie Subie

He's not buying wholesale, dummy.

HAULN-SS Wrote:link

for example - has a few dings and flaws, but 25k less miles, same price.

Did you miss the "buy it now" price, or the "reserve not met" at $5k part?

HAULN-SS Wrote:I'm not saying it's a bad price

Yes you did.

And given the current market, getting that car with a full service history is a damn good deal at under $10k.

E36's in good shape arent easy to find - neglected or poorly maintened they can really turn into a big headache if you buy something that needs a lot of work. They're great cars to drive but they have a lot of parts that are just about done at 100k miles if they've been neglected their entire life.

Why would he buy a car on ebay, halfway across the country, with no history and dings when there is a local, ex-CPO car with full history?

There you go:

A car covered under an extended warranty is not more likely to be well maintained?

HAULN-SS Wrote:And I never said he had to buy an ebay car - just the quickest place for me to find one at the same price. Those "ebay cars" exist in the real world too

Yep, and most of them are auction junk, poorly maintained, no history and body damage - just like the ebay auction.

You used a pretty poor example of "hey look, you can get the same car elsewhere" but in reality its not the same car or anywhere close to it for the same price.

On the topic of ebay cars... I don't feel like I'd ever buy a car off of ebay unless it was a real one-off weird car where I didn't care what state it was in. That's a crap shoot of crap shoots. I'll forever buy locally using cars.com, autotrader, and forums.

That in mind, ebay's prices are skewed accordingly I think. Most people feel the same way.

ummm i bought my crx with 110k miles on it. 70k miles later... after often waiting to change the oil at like 6-7k miles at a time... and not changing the timing belt (OG belt) till 160k miles... it died becasue of hydrolocking. i think that motor would still be running if i didnt run into a flash flood.

you guys are just looking at cars you can neglect and drive into the ground... but never actually get it into the ground.

on a side note... yes i am on the third motor in that car now... the bad luck is just rolling on!

How many E36's and other 10 year old "high end" cars have you looked at? Where do you think dealerships get them from? I'll give you a hint - 90% of them are not trade-ins, and it starts with an "a" and ends in "uction". You rarely know the history unless you buy it from a private seller.

:?:

You're talking so far out of your ass its not even funny.

HAULN-SS Wrote:Also - that extended warranty probably means the belts and hoses were replace when they blew out, breaks, shocks..etc

what are you even talking about :?:

Quote:The expensive shit is probably just as likely to break as it was(which may not even be very likely..just saying)

The "expensive shit" (engines, transmissions, etc) are damn near indestructable on a 6cyl BMW.

The problem is, everything else wears out - cooling system, bushings, transmission mounts, electronics - and if the car was a well maintained CPO car with records all of this will have been covered. If it wasnt warrantied.... the owner is a lot more likely to say "well, it aint broke today and Franz down at the BMW shop wants $,$$$ to fix all this, so I'll let it go a little longer...." I know, because the E36 I owned was like that.
