In high school i did the sound off competition stuff. Most of the guys had them in their show cars. And the only time they would be driven was to a sound off... and they would trailer to a show. Four 12 inch subs with 1k watts on each will drive you to the autox and track! I used to get out of the car with back and chest pains! drop the weight and take it to the track!
This is a little off-topic, but I've permanently lost part of my hearing due to the system in one of my friend's Blazers in high school. Two PPI 15s, Phoenix Gold 1400+w amp, whole thing Dynamatted... I think it was measured at like 142 or 146 decibels.

i agree that car shows aren't as good as the track, even if you delete the track itself. You can see cars out there that you will almost never see on the street (GT3 Cup car, XJ220R, NSXs, and a Noble to name a few that I've seen). The owners virtually never care if you come to look and ask questions, even if they are shoulder deep in the engine bay. The fact that you get to watch them go out and blast around the track is like a huge layer of icing on the cake. There's not as much ass or bling at the track (unless it's during a HizzyFizzy), but the sounds and machinery more than make up for it. I try to make it to the MM car shows, but that is the only show I've been to in a number of years. I too would go to a vintage race car show, just in the hopes to find a Z to scavenge ideas from
I think had a mental image of my 240 during his post :-)

while i was in atlanta this weekend, me and the family ate at this restaurant off the pleasant hill exit (i think). when we left the restaurant, there were hundreds of cars in the parking lot, revving engines, blasting their hip hop while all these people were throwing a football in the parking lot and hangin out and chatting. my cousin described it best by calling it "fast and furious with down syndrome"
ha! holy crap i know....i'm going to drive by one of those one time and chuck a soccer ball out of my window, and see if a spontaneous game of futbol starts up

I don't go to many shows persay, but if there is ever a local meet, I love to take a look around, no matter what group it is. The annual DSM meet at GMU in the spring, was especially enjoyable.
