Just curious, I know you guys seem to be heavily involved in the AutoX scene but does anyone attend Car Shows on a regular basis?
I went to my first show last year and I really enjoyed it. Its a great time to see other cool cars and talk with people who really care about the cars too!

I dont go to shows so much as weekend cruise-ins. Back home we had a place where you could see up to 200 cars on a saturday night ranging from rare and not so rare muscle cars -> todays latest greatest

Anyways... most of us dont go to car shows or meets or any of that stuff. Most of the time those are just a collection of garage ornaments. We do the MM show once a year every spring, its just a fun thing for everyone to get together, get our name out (both on and off campus), have some fun, and make a little money for the club. Now track days, flagging, autox'es... we're all over those!

I was never really into the custom car shows but I'll go to the big industry shows. I went to the LA Auto Show once and that was a lot of fun. I'll probably go to the NY Auto Show this April and the Tokyo Motor Show in October through Vtec.net.
My thing with most shows is that it doesn't really excite me to see cars sitting in a booth anymore after being around alot of racing and seeing exotic cars in action. I'd be tickled if I got to see a show with a bunch of historic racecars but seeing even heavily modified street cars doesn't get me super-excited. Not a bad way to spend an afternoon, but I wouldn't go out of my way.

I got burnt out on Car shows growing up. I use to go every other weekend with my dad in the summer. Just a lot of sitting around, walking around, looking at shiney cars that never get driven. I had a Junior car that I started showing when I was about 10 or so, that was fun, but car shows just kind of bore me now. I like the big ones like Carsile and such, I'd much rather spend my weekend at the race track, either watching or racing.

i like tha larger car shows like Nopi and stuff but i just walk through the lot for like 20 minutes and then spend the rest of my time watchin the drag racing. Im also a fan of po dunk cruise ins.

i tend to go to auto shows to try out seating positions, features, ergonomics, and first-hand experience with the car that i'm planning on purchasing sometime in the furture.
I used to like going to shows, but i dropped out of them for a while. I enjoy going, but i don't take the time/initiative to find them myself. If there are a few people going and i'm free and they want or wouldn't mind company then i'll tag along. I like Euro shows usually.

I will probably get bored with them after this year as well. Its still all new to me so right now its still something I can enjoy and meet some interesting people.
The last car show I went to there was a classic ford mustang that was used in the new commericals with Spike Lee. The couple that owned the car were paid $100K for 5 commercials.
I decided to get an agent for my car as well just to see what happens. They film alot of the Sopranos stuff around here so who knows. I won't make much money for daily shoots but it would be cool to be able to say my car was in ...

I will. I was actually amazed that this is a business. There are several companies in NJ that have been around in families for almost 20 years providing vehicles to the film industy.

Only a handful of us (myself NOT included) have cars that are *really* show-worthy, and thus, we don't participate in shows.
If it is a show of a different genre, such as vintage as G mentioned, I get quite interested. But, if it's "another" classic car show, etc, I rarely go unless it is extremely convenient.

I like going to shows like HIN and NOPI to see all the hot pieces of ass they have, but yeah I agree that it's kinda weak seeing cars that are so tricked out that you can't really drive them. I'd think that trade and industry shows like G is talking about would be really fun though, I'd love to see some of the new concept cars in person.

i don't really go to shows, all i need to do is drive through downtown atlanta/buckhead...it's pretty close :lol:
actually i enjoy shows but i don't like mainstream stuff unless it's to try out seating/touchy feely type stuff that i can't experience at a dealer. i tend to go to a cruise-in type get togethers every now and then to see what kind of modifications people are having success with that i can apply to my car.

come on out to the track, seriously. dont sign up, just come out and watch and hang out and see what its all about. i think the paddock is like one big car show except a lot better than crazy lights, piles of trophies and blinding chrome. honestly, seeing a fairly common car turned into a race car by stripping the inside, caging it and doing some suspension work while the body is covered in dust and has a wrinkled fender, destroyed bumper and bent up hood with a pair of legs sticking out from under it while swears can be vaguely heard over roaring engines on grid gets me more excited than a nice polished exotic car behind velvet ropes.

while i was in atlanta this weekend, me and the family ate at this restaurant off the pleasant hill exit (i think). when we left the restaurant, there were hundreds of cars in the parking lot, revving engines, blasting their hip hop while all these people were throwing a football in the parking lot and hangin out and chatting. my cousin described it best by calling it "fast and furious with down syndrome"

seriously....being able to talk to the owners and see their cars, watch racecars go by on the track, awesome soundtrack of race engines, widowmakers....you can't beat that, and its FREE
first time i went to the track and saw all the glorious stuff on the paddock road i was shaking i was so pumped up (or it could have been the morning temperature at summit point in october)

was that when you woke Ryan and I from our drunken slumber to drag us to flag at Summit? I remember i was still drunk when i was with Mike C. and i didn't really get to fully appreciate the track until the following day. Sorry for making your car REEK of alcohol on the way up btw :wink: :lol:

i couldnt down with the show car bling. hell i just got back from speed unlimited and they had a seet of rims for $10.4k (26 inchers with tires)... thats 4 rust free CRXs... and about 50 E30s in various stages of disrepair!
In high school i did the sound off competition stuff. Most of the guys had them in their show cars. And the only time they would be driven was to a sound off... and they would trailer to a show. Four 12 inch subs with 1k watts on each will drive you to the autox and track! I used to get out of the car with back and chest pains! drop the weight and take it to the track!
