Evan Wrote:Maengelito Wrote:not bad, welcome to the NB club. replace that cast iron exhaust mani. is it a cali model? as for the top, just swap the red top off your klown kar, unless you've put vinyl graphics all over the top. as for the factory windblocker, people usually just drill holes an inch closer into those side panels to mount the windblocker when they put in a roll bar. you're a pretty tall guy though, so that may not be an option for you. how come those wheels arent UG yet?
The dyno shows that a header doesnt do much at all for hp in a miata - the stock peice is pretty good. 1-2hp even when you uncork the exhaust and intake and freshen up the motor. It is a cali model but until I get a CEL or it gives me problems Im not going to touch it. Its 99% DD so Im more concerned with the least amount of hassle rather than tweaking every HP out of it.
Its got the black hard top off my 94 right now and it looks pretty good. The rollbar I got is a "brainstorm" style bar, that mounts pretty far back in between the seatbelt towers. This is perfect for a DD/ occasional track car IMO (also why I didnt get any diagonals) but Im pretty sure the harness bar is going to interfere with the windblocker such that it is going to be pretty much impossible to relocate it.
i heard different about the dyno results from changing out the cast iron header. though i agree that you shouldnt touch it until it gives you the 0421 code, it seems inevitable that you will eventually due to the coilpacks. though i dont like to perpetuate intArweb rumors, the cast iron exhaust manifold from 99-00 (especially cali models cuz of the pre-cat) has been known to be a major choke point in the exhaust. switching to the oem 01+ exhaust manifold or some cheap ebay tubular headers people claim can net anywhere between 5-10hp depending on other mods. and those headers can be had for anywhere between $100-200, so i would think its worth the hassle. but its your car, so i'm not gonna tell you what to do with it. that 1-2 hp claim i hear about the intake. i've got my cheap injen intake on and i'm sorta convinced that i lost hp doing that upgrade so i may put the stock piece back on.
i've thought about making my own windblocker only cuz i dont like the way the stock unit looks in the car. i've seen other convertibles with windblockers that look like black mesh, so i might try something like that to mount between the main supports of my rollbar.

They got it to go from a 16.0 to a 15.2 with regular boltons. Not sure how much of that is swapping to the 6-speed though.
