I have a hard time beleiving that if I can avoid being stuck beside a truck when I'm in my car, that it can't be done on even a "slow" bike. Trucks can't accelerate in any direction very quickly, if they're exiting or entering the highway, you can see them coming and plan far ahead.
If you're paying attention of course.... :wink:

yeah... my take on it? don't put yourself in that situation. that is what riding is all about... avoiding bad situations in order to minimize the risk of going down.

I agree with steve. I hardly use 5th and 6th gear. Like he said it leaves you ready to move if you have to. It is also louder so cagers hear you a bit better.

i think what kaan is trying to say, but doing a very poor job of is... a bike is a shit ton less visible on the road than a car. i still don't agree that an sv is underpowered, though.

Didn't we actually run into a similar situation on 340 last week? A tractor trailer was merging onto the highway and rather than give it time to come over and whore us we all speed up and got out of the way. I would think if you're right next to the thing and he's in a position where he can come over on you you've already failed to ride aware.

IMHO all moto crashes and so forth are rider error. you should have seen the oil patch, or you should be prepared for that situation. you should see what other cars are doing, and granted you can not know what other drivers are doing, you should put yourself in a safe position to move and avoid any bad situation. any bike is fast enough on the street to avoid anything moving.
