I don't blame him, in ATL you're likely to get shot even after you give them your $10... good luck Scotty! hock: greetings from Roanoke!

I wish the story was a little more detailed, in general though it is a very bad idea to take on weapons, especially from multiple people, in almost any circumstancesI really hope that you just didnt read the whole story, because thats some hippe head in the clouds bullshit right there. The robbers/attackers brought lethal force and weapons. Not only was lethal force justified, but they deserved it. Dont want to get killed? Dont fucking attack people with guns.

I don't think its hippyish to wonder why it got escalated into a knife fight. Its just that the general wisdom says, "don't fight back, give 'em the money". So a lot of people in general do this because they don't wanna get hurt and it seems like the most reasonable thing to do in that situation.
In my mind the reason that the "don't fight" advice is given most often is because the average person doesn't have the means to fight back effectively against aggressors, so on balance its probably safer to surrender. However the "don't fight back, give 'em the money" approach is not always correct for the situation. If you perceive a threat on your life you need to respond as fast as possible to defuse or neutralize it. If you see someone even thinking about beginning to do you harm, you don't wait even a millisecond, you engage with intent to main or kill. I'm sure the Marine Corps teaches something similar (they probably don't say anything about 'defusing' a situation though).

I think that dude is pretty badass for what he did, and I applaud him, but weren't all of his assailants around 17 years old? Sure they had weapons, but I'd hope a Marine would be able to take out a group of teenagers if he had to... otherwise I'm switching countries and taking all of my tax dollars with me.

there's a few things that kinda make me feel wierd about this.
-kids were all under 18. and then had there names released. isn't releasing their names illegal if they are under 18. not matter how f-ed up it is? -there were two guns. two. and he kicked BOTH of them out of the robbers. -kids hat age, and stabbing a girl, it may have been threat of force, instead of actual killing intent. if it was killing intent, he'd be dead after he kicked the first gun, if he even kicked it succesfully. if they wanted to kill him, they would have shot almost right when they got out of the car, and not flash around the guns. killing was not on their mind. anywho. -Marines are fucking bad ass. all recieve intense training in CQC and marksmanship, if your MOS is Infantry, you get Advanced courses and if you are like within the top .01% you get a chance for Expert courses like sniper training and force recon. Marines don't have cooks really anymore. they have MREs. But him doing cooking in the Marine Corps shows how fucking bad ass these guys are. Imagine if it was, say, someone who was in force recon. those kids be fucked up even more. I feel sorry for the death, but if you are going to threaten someones life, then you had better be prepared to lose yours. And cheers to the FMJ quote a few posts back. case in poist: Marines are fucking bad ass, don't fuck with them.
