GQROB Wrote:Hmmm? I like the MX. It was very similar to the Azenis on track, if not a tad better. Have you considered Hancooks offerings? I may give the R-S2 Z212 a go when I am due for tires.
I am also going to give these tires a shot as summer tires once the potenzas die out.. hopefully no time soon. :? Got some seperate all-seasons for the winter months. Wouldn't mind trying the MXs either though.
i like my falken 512s, all season, good wet traction, and tread wear close to the BF goodrich
You guys might have read this already but gives a nice review of some good street tires. LINKY: http://www.grassrootsmotorsports.com/im ... retest.pdf

well, i just ordered some Avon M550 all seasons last night. it was those or the BFG traction's, but i read enough reviews of abnormal wear characteristics on the tractions to steer me away from them (i know half the people that put their reviews on tirerack are probably idiots and don't know how to rotate, but there were a few very precise reviews).
also bumped up to 225's, from 205. we'll see how they do in a few weeks when i get them on the car.

Hey, I just recently acquired some Bridgestone RE950s for my 01 Camery, lol. My dad just put these tires on his Sub Legacy and he loves them! Just to make sure he was telling the truth Ciro and I took the car out for a little spin , and the car def sticks, exept when you hit a patch of ice and proceed to go sideways, lol that's another story. Well. considering how my dad drives, it's a good thing he got some decent tires under his lead foot, lol. So far I have only driven the car once with them on. I noticed an immediate difference in response, rolling of the side wall, or lack of it, and there is less road noise compared to the other tires I had on (some crap Continental). Well just wanted to put my 2 cents in
Ryan
got a flat today...stupid nail. of course this happens a week before my new tires are to be installed.
i go 45k miles and have to get a tire plugged in the last 500 to go. geez.
(normally i'd just ride on the spare for a week, but i have to drive to VA on these tires so i don't have a choice)

yeah seriously. and under that rant, i'd have another rant about stupid illegal day laborers doing their sloppy work and leaving roofing nails all over our apartment complex. i found 2 in one parking spot alone! argh!

welp, the Avons went on today. when they arrived from tirerack (great shipping as usual) i got a nice rush of "oh crap" to my heart when i saw how wide they were...alot more than i expected. even at 225 width those things are fat! i was afraid they would have clearance issues with the suspension upright.
on my 7" wide rims they ended up being a solid fit but only have about 5mm of clearance from the upright, if that. live and learn....
anyway i like em! haven't done any hard core testing but they ride quite well and don't tramline at all. i had to go full-out on the brake pedal once to stop for some idiot from about 35 mph to zero....not a squeek. once i play with tire pressures and let the release agent wear off i'll have a better performance report.

I picked out the same tires to replace the crap that came on her SE-R. Right now she just has them in the back but they seem to be a decent tire.
BTW, how in the world would you have tire clearance issues with the upright?

kinda hard to describe but i'll try. basically, its a wishbone design so the upright or steering knuckle (whatever you wanna call it) curls around the inside sidewall of the tire to meet the upper A-arm above. where it goes around the tire there just simply isn't a ton of room for a fatter-than-stock size tire unless you move the wheel out with spacers.

that is a silly design if i've ever seen one... not quite as silly as the rear of chad's car though.

haha, those silly domestics
in all honesty the suspension design is really very good. it's not truly an upper/lower a-arm like a honda design, its actually a setup where there are five links that all move independently, even with steering. i'll just have to find a better technical drawing when i'm not at work.

Maybe this will give ya a better idea of why the tire could have clearance issues.
