Mike Wrote:i beg to differ... gas mileage certainly isn't bad, it would be a blast to drive to work in every day, drop tops just rule, rwd for drifting around u-turns, cheap... what is not to like? impractical? bah, if there is ever a time to do something impractical it is now.
i never said the gas mileage was bad, i just said its nothing special. considering its a tiny 1.8L on a lightweight car, it should get better than 25 mpg which is what i get puttin around town. i agree its a blast to drive and the drop top kicks ass. thats why i bought one, but for rob's intention, he seems to want a fairly sensible car

Well if it would get out of its own way Maybe if i had a turbo....

haha a miata might be a little faster than what I'm used to! I'm loving my car now since I can get 41mpg.

Maengelito Wrote:hey rob, whats your intention for the miata? if its just your daily driver, then its incredibly impractical and not really anything special on gas mileage either. if you plan on taking it to the track (realistically) then i take it all back, but i somehow think that you'll just use it to put around town in which case there are much better options.
Well Maeng here is my situation, I drive 46 miles round trip to work and will be driving a lot more than in a week when I drive to sites. I really want RWD. But FWD would be more practical. I mean it was either an M3 or a Miata, and well yeah you know what is a wiser decision. I probably will honestly not get to the track or autox track as much as I would like. Yeah don't assume either that I won't take it to the track, I took the buick autoxing!
Inclement weather conditions will soon be here, and RWD will not be the best to have, FWD is a wiser decision. If I was being practical I would buy FWD plain and simple. EK Hatch...

i'd say look elswhere. You're spend a lot of time fixing the car as is. It's body is in poor condition, the foglights don't work, horn doesn't work, (you want to pass inspection right?) airbags may be going, sounds like it has a vacuum leak somewhere like my friends BMW had, and it sounds like it hasn't been taken care of at all. (which means something else most likely will go on it. It's been modded, so your warranty is most likely gone, too.

i always hear about people buying a fwd because of the severe weather we get here... how many days are there that a rwd car would simply not work? maybe 3... i wouldn't weigh that too heavily in to a car decision.

Miatas with all season tires are awesome in the snow... LSD, 50/50, whats not to like? As long as the snow isnt packed high enough that the front end is a plow (cue mr plow song), then its fine - and by that point, you should be staying at home anyways.

agreed
out of control rant moved to new thread as to not hijack like I usually do.
Possible poor weather is why I'm keeping the 4Runner now that I have the Miata. Of course I'll probably still take the Miata out if it snows just to play a lil. Like Mike said though, how many days out of the year are so bad that you have to worry about that sort of thing.

Chis snobeck (blue/orange spec miata) built his racecar out of a 160k mile street car and has had no reliability problems.

wha? It doesn't get much nicer than:
New Brembo brake drum!
Subwooper!
Tokio? gas shock!
shaweet!
93 is the best year to build a SM out of, but if you just want a driver or a track car, a 94+ (1.8) has more guts (and most have a torsen)
So you don't want RWD, what about Turbo AWD
