no doubt. i haven't even run mine for real yet (only a few minutes in the dark out front of my house) and i'm already researching new junk and how to tune it
honestly, much of what i learned about suspension tuning when i was younger was due to have an RC model to see and test it out on. knowing what caster/camber/ackerman/toe in and out/squat does to a model was very educational.

It was pretty neat, they had real 'races' and those cars were FAST. Then they did sort of a genmay race where everybody just rammed eachother and they drifted the whole track, one guy was awesome and could drift every turn. I sooo wanted to buy one, but it was going to cost me about 1k when I was done, so I decided against it.
cool stuff. those actually look like mini-rc cars... mne is a 1/10 and that is usually what people run. was gonna cost you 1k? how?
it wasn't a kit, so frame, body, suspension, engine, tires, and radio gear. The radio gear along was almost 200
i'll have to post pictures of my car... mike if you get into it... you can get into it DEEP.
i have special diffs, very expensive bearings, a shit load of spare motors (tons of hand out motors from spec races), wheels, tires, inserts (they are like tire preasure)... titanium cvds and titanium drive shaft maybe i'll dust it off and start racing again
If you attempt to compete in any way with rubber tires on a nitro car, they are going to flog you. AND you need to make sure you break that motor in and keep it tuned or you will burn up a ton of glow plugs and motors

so apparently the douchebags who assemble these "ready to run" shits don't read their own instructions. it clearly says to use loctite on the screws that mount the motor to the chassis. unfortunately, they didn't bother.
i'm going straight at wide open throttle and i hear "whirrr bang." i still have power, but the bitch don't move. great, tranny shit. i xamine the car and the motor is moving A TON when i'm on throttle. 3 of the 4 screws holding it in are gone completely. joy! i kill the fucker and take out the one remaining screw (hand-tight, definately no threadlock on it).
i head to the hobby shop for about the 10th time, grab some screws, get it secured and loctite blued and start er up assuming the engine simply wasn't touching the gears since it was so far off. "whaaaaa whaaaaaa" as i give it some gas and then "CLANK CLANK bzzzzt." damnit, tranny must be fucked too. 20 minutes later i have the tranny opened up to find one of my gears has about 5 teeth chewed right off. DAMNIT! so i get to head to the hobby shop tomorrow to pick up a new gear... 3 bones down the drain! fuxor!
this stuff rocks. so cheap, a lot of the same parts as real cars, and a freaking blast. both coworkers have hit curbs pretty seriously. one jacked up his wheel bearings and was able to pick up 8 replacements for 2 bucks, while the other had a full throttle hit and has broken several suspension arms his cost is unknown, but i'd guess around 40.

i know im being an asshole by saying this, but....

use loctite on EVERYTHING. those bitches will shake themselves to peices in a few hours.
sorry this happened so soon and cost so much of your time, man. on the flip side....that is pretty much the worst damage that can happen from chassis bolts coming loose. now that you know, i'm sure it won't happen again. do yourself a favor and buy like 10 spur gears, seriously....they're cheap and easy to plug into your tranny if a rock flies up into the chassis and lodges into the gear (it happens) you can just pop a new gear in and roll. its also nice because you can gear your car as you please for certain conditions.
if it makes you feel any better, at least you havent had your car catch fire yet. it's a long story but i've f'ed up an RC car in just about every way possible, ha. broken chassis, shattered servos, melted batteries.....woohoo!
oh yeah, glad your having fun with it! sounds like the smell of nitro has a hold on your brain. excellent.

i was stupid for assuming when it said "ready to run" that they meant i didn't have to remove every screw and loctite them
oh well, the damage is done. in the end i'll have spent about 30 minutes and a grand total of like $4 to get it working right again. not a bad price to pay if you ask me
i'll buy up all the spur gears they have (max 2 )

i bought my first car like you did, half assembled, with the same results i feel kinda guilty for not giving you a heads up!
Shea- that video is sweet! even on dirt i was never that good at drifting. there is also a video on the interweb somewhere of a .21cc buggy that some kid ramps his house with. it literally goes off a ramp in the front yard, sails over the roof, and lands on its wheels in the back yard and drives off.

I still have half a dozen sail planes. Think glider...radio controlled but no engine so keeping them in the air is tricky.

where do you usually go to catch the best thermals/updrafts? i always liked sailplanes, it seemed really relaxing to watch.

thats it! i'm going to dust off the old machine... go to the hobby shop and buy some twisted electric... respring it, break it in... and we can have a drift battle stage... i'll set the car up for it!
btw... if you are going to "race" you'll need an assorment of shock oils... and shock pistons... you'll want a swaybar for battle stage!

How the hell do you tune something that you drive with a remote control?

think of a steering wheel and pedals as your remote control... it is a gas engine, has diffs, gears, driveshafts, shocks, springs, control arms... all the same shit a real car has.

RJ i'll bring my car this weekend and let you look at the extreemly complex crap that a remote control car has.
i have to work on it a bit to fresh'n it up! right now i'm on a very neutral set up and just change tires to alter the set up... but my diffs are set right on the money!

Yes I know this - but how do you get a 'seat of the pants' feel for something that you cant drive yourself?

if i get the real car done i'll replace those that spur gear and show you boys what a real r/c car can do (kaan's is fake). since mine is still pretty much out of the box, it pushes quite a bit. i'm thinking i could solve that by removing the front driveshaft, eh?

i was thinking and 8 turn triple... lost of RPM and plenty of torque.... without having to wait for the gas motor to spool up... too bad it would last about 2 mins that way lol... i need to get new batteries.... 5 year old battiers... no matter the gearing... are done for!
