I have never had a problem sealing a case with Hondabond - I doubt my factory service manual is incorrect. If RTV is getting lodged inside the case, you used way too much of it.

It's what a good transmission mechanic would use, its not expensive and there is no reason not to use it over RTV - why take the risk? Just trying to help out, in the SHO world its considered a common mistake.

while I have no doubt that idea has some merit, it is not good practice to trust internet hearsay over what the factory service manual specifically calls out.

Tomorrow, header, pedals and harnesses.

There's nothing wrong with "interweb mechanics" if they have done the work in question multiple times and it has been verified by other people as correct.

Hondabond is crazy good and pretty much every Honda person uses it. From factory to dealer to jackass in his garage.
 Good job RJ. Makes me want to go get a spare trans for my MR2.

Transmissions look confusing, and are time consuming. In all reality, they're not that hard. They are only as hard as you make them.
Transaxles are a little more complicated than a RWD tranny, but even then, with some common sense, they aren't difficult.

Almost ready for hyperfest..... need to mount harnesses and thats about it, given that my transmission plans are on hold. Oh well. I still have lots to do after hyperfizzle - maybe by VIR i'll have the tranny in, new bushings in and the front lip mounted up. I'd like to do something about thsoe ugly black door moldings and side skirts... oh well. Eventually.

Update from the OPM situation. They finally got back to me on tuesday and I wasnt too happy with the conversation. The end result is that I am sending the diff back to them and he will fix it and ship it back to me..... I'm putting it in the mail tomorrow, so hopefully I will have it next week, re-assemble my tranny and get it in the car before VIR.
Tom called and I explained the situation to him. He started out by telling ME what I need to do to fix it... which was the complete wrong approach. They f'ed it up, and he should have approached it with "how can I make this right - we wasted a lot of your time". At that point I was upset and would have lost it if I were not in the office with 5 of my coworkers within earshot. He first tells me that I can tap it... and i told him "tom, I dont wnat to buy a $100 tap, because I didnt strip the bolt holes out" and we went back and forth on that - he also suggested that I impact the shit out of the bolt and then tack weld it in place - yeah right. I have 3 different final drive gear sets, so thats really a bad option and I told him that - I told him I wasted driving an hour each way to the shop to put it in the transmission, and I currenly have a $700 paperweight. He started to get pretty defensive and said "well this is a common problem, it happens all the time" and I said "well I shipped it with the ring gear bolted to the diff, you pulled it off and now one of the holes is chewed up". I asked if he checked them before shippping it and he said "they looked fine" and then I asked "well did you run a bolt through each hole to make sure they were ok?" and he said "well... no... but... hey I dont deal with ring gears, I build limited slips and thats it. You should have taken it off before shipment anyways, we're not responsible for that, its a common problem and you should have known about it". I reminded him taht I asked him about leaving the ring gear on in my initial conversation with him to ship it and he said that was fine - then he said "fine - ok - I"ll fix it... send it back to me" - like he's doing me some sort of favor. Either way, I hope all of this works out... but my chances of doing business with OPM again are pretty slim.

you're not the first to have poor customer service from what i've seen :? why did you go through them over someone else?
