Indeed they don't handle water very well, but usually if a normal amount water is sucked in the intake of an engine, it become atomized.
An old trick to burn carbon off valves and pistons is to dump water down the carb (kinda hard on newer engines). I've done this many times...got my gallon jug off water and went to town. I just saying it's kinda hard to hydolock an engine because you gotta have quite a but of water getting sucked directly into the intake. Ususally splashing thru a puddle just soaks the filter and fucks with shit, but enough water doesn't make it all the way up the intake fast enough to bend a rod....of course there are always exceptions.
I feel more like i do now than I did before.

that is how you are supposed to de-carbonize a rotary. but they don't count as real engines anyways |
