Wow, cameras, you guys are some serious people lol. So lets say someone is babysitting at your house are you required to let em know you're recording them? Or if you have friends over? or...you leave Dan there to detail your car while you're at work? Or private property so you can do whatever ya want

In my case, my house is the first on the driveway and behind it our family land. People hunt on our land, cattle guy comes and goes, I'd just like a better idea of who's doing what when and if they're supposed to be there. And if someone steals my lawn mower or something, hey, hopefully I catch their plate. :dunno:

yeah, what chan said. mostly for info.
the teddy bear with the blinking red eye watches the babysitter.

(which is silly, since of course you know you are recording)
multiple babysitters have turned the cameras around though, which irritates me.

Who the heck wants to be recorded? Are you surprised? Would you want to be recorded?

Who the heck wants to be recorded? Are you surprised? Would you want to be recorded? Thats a pretty self-absorbed response. Im paying the babysitter to do a job, and I have every right to observe to ensure that job is being performed.
AND when that job envolves the health and wellbeing of my child, you bet your ass Im going to have a camera there. If youre (babysitter) too wrapped up in yourself to understand that, dont take the job.
I run Foscams with Blueiris software. I also have the Vera Lite automation running a bunch of Z-wave gadgets, including some scenes. It's fun. Not always 100% reliable, but that's part of it for me. I do drive a 1985 XR4Ti on track after all.

Ordered my system Monday afternoon, should be here tomorrow. Not Amazon fast but not bad! I knew to do this through a friend, however they even sent me a reminder email to register my home with the local alarm bureau so that the cops would actually show up if we needed them to. I will give impressions once it is all unboxed, set up etc.
The company I ended up with is Frontpoint Security, they are actually based out of Mclean. http://www.frontpointsecurity.com/
It was a close decision between them and Protect America who is also pretty good. FP had a better BBB reputation and use the Alarm.com app which is better than the homegrown Protect America app.

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth

Have an old touchpad and dock that makes a great dedicated viewer
Very, very pleased with the FrontPoint system so far. Installation took me maybe 30 minutes, with the last 10 minutes being spent trying to figure out the best spot to place the motion detector. Called FP to set it up and got an activation code to the online portal and app. It is crazy how much you can customize with these systems, including push notifications for basically any event or situation you can imagine. The only hiccup so far was that the base unit wiring for the battery backup was a little finicky and two of the buttons weren't labeled on it, so no questions asked they are next day airing me a new one.
The app is pretty sweet, I can see at any point in the day who is coming in and out of my house, arm / disarm remotely, etc. Pretty stoked to add some additional stuff to the system in the near future; because it is wireless I could even add a contact to the rifle safe.

If it goes off, don't forget to identify the target before shooting.

I have a little bit of a rub near lock but if you are turned to lock on a track there are other problems already...
I did not order any cameras through this company as I am looking at other options, but you can set up both through the service and to be viewable through the mobile app. It does cost a little more every month to view through the app ($5 maybe)
And yeah Steve, I would like to think that I would make an attempt to identify the threat before I pulled the trigger. I've got a mag light next to the bed (and a flashlight / strobe on my home defense weapon as a backup) that would hopefully help clear up what's going on during a break in

and never shoot someone until they are an *immediate* threat to you and/or your family's safety or health.
Your 'stuff' is insured and not worth taking a human life over even if it wasnt (or more importantly, not worth risking a mistake like above)
the problem with owning a gun is most people are a little too eager to use it.
