Diesel 1500 Trucks: Win, Lose or Draw?

The small trucks are always too near the price of a full size to make it work.

If the buying requirements are to get as much steel per $, than yes, clearly the bigger the better. Honestly I am not at all surprised if that's what many new truck buyers are actually thinking, "I want as much truck as I can (not) afford". And the only reason they're not driving around a unimog is that they don't have the $. So here we are!

Yeah, see, I have an interest in owning a truck that could tow the M3 to the track and be used for other 'trucky' things. And you know what size truck was perfect? The early '00s Dakota. Smaller truck that wasn't ridiculous to DD, powerful enough V8 so it could tow, quad cab, and some nice options.

The new 1500 trucks are bigger than my first apartment. There's a guy in our neighborhood now with a recent-ish F150, and it's comically large parked in the driveway of his townhouse.

And all of ^ that is why, if I ended up buying a box-shaped vehicle that was boring to drive but could tow, it'd be Grand Cherokee sized. No pickup truck on the market today interests me.

A fullsize truck would be more than enough to tow the M3.

If you're not using a covered Trailer, a Tacoma or Dakota would do it.

I'm not suggesting anyone asked anyone to "lie" I am saying people always want to talk about the great deal they got and they often leave things out. I'm not suggesting the dealer had anything to do with it or that your friend is a liar, just that people miss the fine print sometimes. Things such as processing fees, lackluster trade allowances, extended warranties or service plans people get sold often don't make the "I got X sweet truck for X low price" story, feel me? Of course it is totally possible he got 10,000 off, I'm not saying that isn't true either, but a similarly equipped Ram or Silverado would have the same sort of inventive level. :thumbup:

Sure but the truck buying public not in the city doesn't see the value of having it smaller. It's not that they really WANT bigger but why go smaller if the $$ and MPG's don't change that much? Plenty of people love Dakota's but didn't want to pay $36k for one when an incentivized Ram with a Hemi was $38 and could tow a bigger boat/camper/mowing trailer.
