Cleganebowl was fucking dope. That is what I choose to remember from this episode. "Die you fucking cunt!" What is hype may never die.
Everything else is just a disappointing mish-mash of poor writing. I mean damn, Daenerys went from 'breaking the wheel' to less-mercy-than-fucking-Thanos in like 2-3 episodes.

It's been a whirlwind of GoT reviews everywhere I look, so I'll try to not belabor the point, but...
The Winterfell battle episode & last night's ep5 were excellent standalone pieces of entertainment, but the entirety of the season is a mess. I'm still having a ball watching them but the ineptitude of the writers, and thus the characters is starting to really chafe. The siege & street battles of Kings Landing were some of the best chaos & horrors of battle scenes I've seen on TV, but yes, Jon should've piped his aunt one more time to help avoid that whole mess.
True, there have been flashes of Daenerys becoming a mad queen earlier in the series - she's always been a steadily-declining total egomaniac. Still, the way they handled this drastic turn just didn't feel earned. Benioff & Weiss want us to accept a heady turn of events without the supporting...anything...that would do said turn justice & it just leaves a bad taste. Still excited for the finale because if nothing else, it'll be stunning to look at I'm sure.
At least Cleganebowl was awesome. The shot of flame-spitting dragon cruising past might take my cake for best shot in the series.
And now for something completely different - a HBO show that you can, and should, get behind.
Chernobyl.
My god is this a good show. 2nd of 5 episodes in the mini series aired tonight and I'm totally enthralled. The acting, directing/production, pacing, period accuracy and overall tension & mood of the series is so far superb. You should watch it.
Good to hear the Chernobyl mini-series is turning out well. It's on my list.
New season of Sneaky Pete is out on Amazon. 2 episodes in so far - great show.

I gotta check out Chernobyl. My wife asked "is this a true story". Many facepalms.

Jon Snow being a Targaryen was largely pointless.
Greyworm ceding control to a council of lords he's never served with is so against his character & he did it in about 5 seconds.
The whole scene with Tyrion rearranging chairs and them making brothel jokes was cringe worthy.
Jon is sent to the Night's Watch which is useless now, and they operate their gate as if there isn't a giant hole right over there ->
Arya didn't do anything everyone wanted to see, and grows some last minute plot device desire to sail off into the distance to setup another story. Waste of her character.
Jon quit being a shitbag & embraced Ghost, so there was some redemption to ward off hating it. But, that was a very bad finale.

I thought the closure for Jon was appropriate, he never wanted to be a king of anything, and the knife to the dragon lady was predictable. Meh. I'm with you on the rest of it. I never read the books so I cant say I really care much one way or the other but this season really left a lot of depth out. I didnt watch the first couple of seasons either so before I was always asking Laura about why a character is salty about someone or who killed who or why is that significant - until this current season when its all just flat and transparent.

All of this, plus fuck Bran "I think I'll warg off for a while" Stark.
Congratulations, you've invented the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.
Whole thing sucked in that it fell absolutely flat.

Im not sure if I could have hated it any more.
This whole season was just a big betrayal of the viewer.
There was one more point I didn't include in my rant: fucking NO ONE thought to mention, at the meeting of lords and Greyworm and prisoner Tyrion, that heyyyyy 'member that secret: Jon is actually the rightful heir to the throne. So it was probably OK for him to murder the usurper Dany.
Whether he wanted the throne or not, or whether it was more better for him to kindly jog on and become king beyond the wall, the mere fact that they all sort of forgot about that point was just weird.
I'm so very underwhelmed.
Man I made excuses for a lot of season 8 - story took some hits but cinematography and music and plain old simple entertainment were there...but last night was just awful.

Goodspeed said it all.
My problem was that for 8 seasons this was a story of the Stark family being ripped apart, reunited, and ripped apart. All they had to do was reunite the remaining Starks/Jon. Jon didn't have to be king, but fuck if having him ride off with the Wildlings wasn't the most piss poor way they could have ended it. And letting Greyworm call the shots? This guy is a slave for fuck's sake. Tell him to get in line or behead him. What a slap in the face.
Watched E1 of Chernobyl. Really enjoyed it. Plan to watch the second one tonight. I know the basic story, but once I finish watching I want to read up on how close it follows the true event.

I mean, the setpieces were fucking great, everything with a dragon in it was boss, but that's just a veneer on a pule of shit writing.

I have yet to see anyone offer a compelling native on how they'd have season 8 go. Anyone care to try?

I would have let Arya kill Dany. The motive was there after Arya was left to burn to death in the city and witnessed the mother and child burned to ashes. Jon could have either been king or ceded power to Bran. He could have either been hand to Bran or gone back to be king in the north. What bothers me most is the Stark family plus Jon was just shit on again. And they had the audacity to have Sansa say "I hope you understand, Jon." That was the most bullshit line of all time.
I'm so bothered that they let Greyworm decide Jon's fate. And zero explanation of where Bron was the entire battle? Not even a joke about how he was drunk in a brothel or out doing whatever? The fuck?

The Stark family has a king, a queen, and the leader of the wildlings. I don't think that means what you think it means.
