Where could you get those things serviced? Not sure I would be keen on driving to Raleigh every time I needed an oil change

Unfortunately I think any 4C buyers would be stuck doing that for the immediate future. Kinda like how I gotta drive to Lynchburg to get Aprilia service =/

+342 pounds for the US 4c Sad

price is good though at $55k, especially considering the carbon tub is now thicker. There was some speculation that it would be $70k+ due to carbon fiber prices increasing.

Yeah I was shocked to see +342 lbs. It's still pretty damned light but that's a huge weight increase.

$55k is a steal though. Used will be an even better bargain although I think prices will stay high because of the low supply.

Pretty good explanation of the how the Porsche 919 combination of gas and electric motors work together as well as how it recuperates energy.

In fact, a poll conducted in 2010 revealed that 80 per cent of 1-series drivers thought their car was front-wheel drive anyway.

Lol
Why do people just post what they are thinking? Without thinking.

Those owners must have never ever driven the car in inclement weather. It tells you, alright.

BMW also makes an X1 small crossover.. They don't really care what is "pure", they care about what sells cars. Don't fool yourself in thinking any car manufacturer actually would go with what is "better" over what sells more and lines their coffers.

Like DJ said, they have no care about what's "pure" or "lends itself to their heritage" or whatever bullshit. They're making cars to fill every niche, and if a tall, short, 4.5-passenger, FWD schoolbus-esque people hauler is what will sell, that's what they shall build. And they shall call it the 2-series Active Tourer.

They do make some decent stuff still, you just gotta sort through the riff-raff. I don't see their entire lineup going FWD, just some of it.

Tesla will now be open source. Musk announced that they will remove all of their patents to advance electric car technology. Very interesting and a bold move on their part. http://jalopnik.com/tesla-motors-all-ou ... 1589971589

Apparently the official weights for the new mustang are 3500 for the v6 and Ecoboost and 3700 for the GT.

The 2014 base mustang GT was 3618 lbs so gaining 100 lbs for the addition of IRS isn't terrible. Still wish it was a few hundred lbs lighter like they were originally saying.

It makes sense. He needs more companies pouring money into the electric car infrastructure for his company to grow and thrive beyond the niche market. I think this statement sums up his level of intelligence and willingness to break the common attitude of self-serving corporate growth for profitable growth that benefits society: ""If a company is truly relying on patents or patent portfolio, that's a weak position"

This guy sees the future and the future is in clean energy. If the infrastructure and competitiveness is there (meaning more companies are marketing and selling electric cars so consumers start to truly consider electric cars as an option), his company can sell more units and continue to innovate. He isn't dumb, he wouldn't open up patents that would cripple his company. They are already light years ahead of most anyone else and I would bet have a ton of innovation already in the pipeline. They will stay on top of that market, they just need the big auto makers to help build it up for them.

I agree with you completely, Lee. Musk is a smart guy ultimately driven by his need to help save the world via clean energy.

In other news, if you own a new gen camaro, it's been recalled. http://jalopnik.com/gm-just-recalled-al ... 1590389786

Why not just recall every car they've made since 1990? At this point it seems like it would be easier.

I think the Tesla thing is a free press grabbing stunt and little more. I agree that if a company is relying on existing patents, they are doing it wrong. However, this means that most likely Tesla has already moved on. No one is going to use their patents to do anything but maybe scratch a curiosity itch. Anyone that already has electric car ambition already has their own infrastructure and tooling in place, and anyone that's not in the game will be 5 years behind by the time they implement anything Tesla released.
