I know you came from Apple and all Apple people will argue it but I know almost all the Android people in here will argue that the iOS operating system has the most backwards pain in the ass user interface every created... Once you're used to Android. That plus paying a premium for tech that was two years outdated at launch (after jobs died).
I know you experienced both and I really don't care what phone everyone has. iPhone isn't for me, that's cool if you guys like it. Seems like most Apple users are finally off their high horse that they have superior phones. A bunch jumped ship, maybe jumped back. I don't know. All phones are the same... But different.
I like the Galaxy's. Wish they wouldn't tease tech that they aren't ready to release or try to over hype 10 year anniversaries when they already say the cutting edge tech won't be out till the next phone or even their lower tiers. But I've never really had an issue with their UI or skins. I don't have bixby yet and don't really want it as I'd rather just use Google Assistant but other than that, it's pretty ok to me...3 years later.
It's also water resistant...
My one experience with vanilla Android was on a lg tablet and it kind of sucked. You couldn't even clear tabs in bulk in chrome. Had to literally sit there and hit the little x in each one.
What ui skin do you guys really have an issue with on Samsung's? Also, you don't have to get the most expensive 10 variant. There are 3 tiers.
While I'm bored and ranting, why the hell does Gmail app not let you swipe to delete messages. Why do I need to two different ways to archive messages. That's probably one of the main reasons I don't use my Gmail more.

Yup. It aint perfect, but, it will never not handle the basic functions just fine. People that bitch about iOS have too much free time to go looking for things to complain about.
The complaints I heard most often were what iOS did to the battery.
iOS = easy button for soccer moms
Android = flexibility for basement nerds

Maybe check your settings. Rumor has it you can change that in there.

Maybe no-one is interested, but there's no $50 or less computer soundbar worth considering. The $35 "TaoTronics" doesn't even sound as good as a tiny Google Home speaker, especially since the specs lie about it being 10W, as it only draws 5W from USB.
This Soundcore mini bar that Anker makes is perfect though for twice the price:

UI makes a lot of sense to me but I've been on iOS since day one. Android also made sense for the most part.
The technical specs don't really matter to me. I care that the phone is fast, responsive, takes quality photos, and has a high-quality screen with good battery life. A lot of Android owners love to get caught up in spec wars, but none of it matters if the hardware and software can't interact in a way that enables the items I just mentioned. And with optimized software, older and slower hardware can be kept in service for a longer period of time.

To be honest, all my specs are based off if it has wireless charging or not. And also sometimes a headphone jack(which is more ok now that Bluetooth is better) expandable memory (which is less important now with cloud storage and larger internal storage)
I don't read any of the actual specs. I could barely send a text message on my iPhone 6? 7? (They all literally look the same) work phone.
OMG. Thanks Chris. I swear that is a recent update. I've definitely looked before.

i didn't see that setting before, but it was a while back since i was using Inbox for a while (until Google discontinued that, so i went back to Gmail).
Helpful, i'm not marking things as read and deleting. it's a small touch, but so nice.

I kinda want one, kinda. Not quite there to justify it to myself yet though. I've had iPads in the past, but have a new MacBook Pro for work and bought a touchscreen Lenovo for home use. The two are a nice combo, but an iPad could be good to have kindamaybe if I want a new toy later this year.

Yeah, that's my concern. Laptops are fine for home use too. Maybe the smaller iPad Pro would be worth having, but I can't quite justify it yet.

I stopped using tablets when my phone got faster than them. I changed to a chromebook for casual home and traveling; haven't missed using a tablet.

Dude, don't ask me. I used my 10% hardware discount for new Pixel 3 for my me and my wife... then they started a BOGO 50% off a week later. I called to ask if I could get a credit on the difference. NOPE.
For my money, I'm going with a Pixelbook over the Slate.

Wow, 10% off....don't sink yourself Google.
I figured it would be a way better discount than that.

I don't think there's any real margin on hardware for most companies. I did get a free phone and plan, but they are "fully managed" and I don't want my employer to be able to see EVERYTHING I do and EVERYWHERE I go. I opted to get a new personal device at discount and continue living two separate device lives.
Amazon's employee discount was 10% off the first $1000 of purchases... or $100/year. I'll take $160 off our Pixel 3's and free food at work any day.

So we signed up for a free 3 month membership at BJ's club to pick up some bulk stuff we use a lot, and I grabbed a pair of these for when I come out of my sedentary state in teh spring:

For $18 I was absolutely staggered at the sound quality, reasonable noise cancellation and comfort. We'll see how they perform when I'm running around / training soccer drills but at 7 hour battery life for how small these are, noise cancellation and wireless....color me impressed for a few runs worth of Starbucks

They are not noise cancelling. Just the microphone, as in, while talking to someone they wont hear your background noise.
I have some over-ear Tao Tronics Bluetooth headphones that were stupid cheap and they are pretty good.
Of the cheap china brands, they are solid.
I had those Tao's for a little while. I think I paid $12 on amazon on one of their one-day deals. They lasted long enough for me not to care about $12. The microphone got in the way when I was working out so I ditched them.
