Oh I knew that new stuff was obviously better. Just wasn't as motivated cause I never watched enough on a new TV to care.

...and Lee, no chance you were going to downgrade from a TV that's 40% larger than a 55".

Well... fuck. keep that in mind for future large Amazon orders i guess.

It is crazy just how much larger a 65in is though. Toni's family has one and I was convinced it was at least 70+. My apartment is barely 800sqft and the living room the TV is in is narrow,  so 55in pretty much feels like a movie screen.

My research found there was no appreciable difference between the model years, so keep a lookout for Black Friday clearance.

That's a good call.  I'm not super opposed to upgrading necessarily, but an uber low price on a big ass OLED would do it.  I could probably still get $600-$700 out of this LG to cover some of the costs

Going to be watching this thread and Black Friday Deals.  Would like to pick up a new 60-65.  The one I bought last Black Friday in 2011 is still going strong but we will need another big TV when we move.

Yeah Chris, if something pops up should we just like message / text you for a referral code? How does that work?

This Amazon "See how this TV looks in your room" thing is cool.

65 will do nicely.

Ikea has a new app like that for iPhones. I wasn't aware Amazon did as well. That is pretty cool. Is that a standalone app?

Nah, if the feature is available for the TV you want to view it'll show just below the products pic within the Amazon app.

Print off the "Amazon Marker", which they use as a known size, you can use a dollar bill as well.

Then follow the instructions in the app.

Just shoot me a link to the product and I'll send a link back to you. I think it drops a cookie for like 24 hours or something. Once the product ships, I get 4% that pays out at a certain floor. I always take it in Amazon credit 'cause we order things like every other day. I'll venmo/paypall you half the commission, if you're interested.

The program is open to everyone if you want the full 4% - I actually had my account before I worked there. I usually have my wife order the big stuff so we get 4% back. You can get higher % with more items shipped, but we don't use it a ton because our sales tax is 10.1% and sites like newegg don't charge it.

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth

Suggest passing on grey market. Even if it's busted, you're still paying to get It fixed.

To be fair, it's the same shit basically for the S8.

"But it's pretty" they say. Cool, you're forced to put a fucking case on it anyway so who cares.

Black Friday deals for Best Buy were released this morning.

Looks like I'm snagging the Sony 900e in a 65in, unless LG cuts their oleds like crazy between now and then.

Smile I am excited!

Anybody have a Westinghouse TV? Target is doing a 55" 4k UHD smart TV for $249 for black friday. I don't really need a TV, but the price is enticing.

From what i have read they are pretty much crap. For $249?  Probably what it should cost you, so not terrible. I still wouldn't though.

Whoa, whoa, whoa... I thought you said they were all the same and to just buy one?

In other news, it took me two days, but I finally got my XB1X hooked up properly to the LG OLED. Holy balls. I showed my wife a 4K video from youtube and she actually thought the picture quality was too good - "it's like real life, but it isn't... I don't know if I can watch a whole show like that." I accidentally had some HDR faking setting on the TV that make everything really bright; she didn't think it was too much after that. Amazon Video 4K was a little weaker, but still pretty good. Watching 1080p DirecTV is really disappointing after seeing the native 4K stuff. It's just fuzzy and there is some ghosting that kinda feels like when you watch 480p after being used to 1080p. I'm not sure if it's a function of upscaling or the signal just plain sucks. I need to upgrade our DTV receiver. Upscaling of games like Destiny 2 is definitely noticeable - the picture is just cleaner and brighter.

Pro tip: If you have an AV receiver, chances are it won't pass the 4K signal along.

I had to rework my topography to make my receiver the last component in the line. Before it was HDMI with receiver before TV (DTV > XB1X > AV > TV) and now the receiver is after the TV (DTV > XB1X > TV > AV) with sound being sent via optical. This did introduce an audio sync issue that I was able to correct with an audio delay setting on my TV.

Interested to see what settings you tweaked, my plan was to follow this - RTINGS LG OLED C7 Settings.

Yeah - my AV receiver says "4K Passthrough," which, is true. Insofar that ONE of the 4 fucking inputs is 2.2 along with the output. Fuckers.

My plan is to plug all into the TV and then utilize the ARC to push audio to the receiver. Just have to do all my switching through the TV which may be better anyway. May be worth giving that a shot for simplicity sake.

I still feel the same about HD.

Get off of my lawn.

I'll just be over here with my home button and my carbmaphones and my manual transmissions.
