JPolen01 Wrote:Who knows. That article even states that rumored $999 price tag might be for a special anniversary edition iPhone. Don't they are rumored to be releasing 3 different versions I'm sticking with my statement. The version targeted for the masses will not cost $1000.

Why is $1k surprising? 128GB 7+, 128GB Pixel XL, 64GB S8+, 64GB Note 8 are/were all about $900 when new.

It's not. I was under there impression that they were claiming there iPhone would start at $1000. Having a $1k option sure. But the smaller version isn't going to be that expensive.

-On the low end of the new lineup, the 64GB iPhone 8 will retail for $999
-A 256GB device will cross the $1,000 mark and retail for $1,099
-An even larger 512GB version will be the most expensive iPhone yet at $1,199

If that is true, are providers going to subsidize the phones again? I don't see the average iPhone user dropping $900 on a cell phone. I sure as fuck won't. Is the 7s going to be that much cheaper?

I bought a TV. Vizio p65-e1. CNET gave it best screen (under OLED) two years in a row. And Costco + Costco Visa gave me a 4 year warranty which eased my mind slightly about the mixed reviews.

Also another review site that I can't think of the name weighted a bunch of features and specs and compared lots of TVs and for my uses, the Vizio always seemed to come out on top.

They got rid of that stupid tablet for 2017 and that's all they changed. I got the 2017 but the 2016 got an update so it uses the same menus on the screen instead of the tablet so I probably would have been better off getting the 2016 cause I'd have both the tablet and on screen option. (unless the update killed support for the tablet, idk)

But anyways, it'll be here Tuesday so looking forward to that and I'll be getting a Xbox one x in the next year hopefully that'll pull ultra Blu Ray duty and hopefully down the road Forza + Sim wheel setup.

I would imagine the TVs apps would be 4k capable for the Netflix content that's 4k and I'm sure my old firestick and fire TV are not. Chromecast ultra is, and I imagine the Xbox will be. All this thinking is based on if the TVs apps suck as badly as most manufacturer "built-in" stuff is.

And oh yea, being a Google home household, I also like Vizio has Chromecast built in. So I think I should be able to control any sort of built in streaming from the home.

Also in other news, I pulled my old hp touchpad out of the drawer when we moved and for the hell of it decided to check if there were still people making easy guided ROMs for it. I had some old buggy Android rom on it that had horrible battery drain and no support cause it was so old.

Turns out people are still making shit for it so I put a really nice stable version of KitKat on it and immediately (in the same tutorial it recommended starting from KitKat cause it was so stable and then going to, idr what the current one is) put like nougat or something on it. It's graphics are a little rough on the icons and stuff but it's actually not horribly slow and even streamed live FiOS TV the other night. And the battery drain is actually better than my stock LG g pad (which is also several years old now) but the touchpad is pretty bare and the g Pad has lots of apps that I'm sure suck it's battery any chance they get.

Pretty cool though that there's still support for the $100 firesale tablet. (thanks Ken!) I wish I knew more about the tech stuff cause I'd probably reflash my g pad and also find better ROMs for the touchpad cause I just use whatever ROM the guy making the tutorial suggests.

Same. I've been pretty unhappy with my Samsung junk but am going to wait until Google's Pixel announcement (scheduled for October 5, I think) to figure out what to do next. The 8 would be a fine phone but Android-the-OS has grown on me a bit.

Google Photos really makes me want to stick with Android. The integration there is super slick.

iMessage and general "it just works" makes me want to go back to iOS.

Yeah the 8 seems like the easy button. Only thing that draws me to the X is the screen size. I couldn't give a shit less about portrait mode or selfie mode or face unlocking.

I think we had a cord cutting thread unless it was here but just came to say with my recent experience with FiOS, I would say avoid them at all costs. The field techs are super nice and helpful. The sales and tech support are a bunch of assholes who lie and bait and switch you into paying more.

I tried to order current triple play promotion with gig internet online (because that's the only way to get free install and other savings). Won't even let me select gig speed. Just 50/50. Use their chat box and a rep (broken English) builds the cart for me so I can get a price. All is well. Go out and compare some other options. Come back a few days later and pull up the saved cart and go to checkout, and the price was $111 before fees, $125 total but jumps to $131/$156 on the second to last page of checkout.

Ok, weird I think. Pull up chat and a new rep builds me a new cart and has me try checkout while still in chat. Same thing happens. He tries on his end and says same thing is happening. Says to call and place order the next day and tell them what's going on.

Call and try to place order. Sales rep (who was a rude ass) tells me it's a $90 install fee. I'm like no, I want to order online but your system is screwed up. I want free install. He just keeps repeating that he doesn't know what I'm doing wrong online but he can give me the correct price but I need to pay install. I tell him Verizon's own reps couldn't do it so it's not what I'm doing wrong and I don't want the service of this is what I have to deal with. He says that since I'll be getting a $250 wireless credit (part of promo) that it's basically still free. No that's not how this works and I'm almost positive they're going to not go back or that credit thing cause I still haven't seen a way to apply for it.

So we hang up. Just for the hell of it, the next night I try chat again. Explain the whole situation. Rep builds cart. Says to give it a try. Same thing happens but this time he says he can fix it after checkout. Go through with it and give him the order number and he'll fix it. I ask him several times if he's sure cause no on else offered this. He says not to worry And assures me it'll be taken care of. I do it, give him order number and he says he fixed it and I'll recieve a confirmation email within 24 hours. I request more info and he says I'll be able to save the chat after I close it and do the survey (which there was no option to save it) and he gives me a chat Id number which of course I find out days later doesn't show up in their system.

So I of course get no email and try following up pretty much every night with no success. Then they say they have to come setup the service before the bill shows up before any of them can even see it.

Service installed, works fine, leave for a few hours. Come back, turn on TV and the main box HDMI out is completely dead. Av works but no HDMI. Try tech support and they say (after all the questions like I'm an idiot, did you jiggle the plug) they'll send out a new box. When they ask if I'm satisfied, I say of course not. I've had the service for like 3 hours and now I don't have a box and it's Friday of a holiday weekend so it'll be Wednesday before I see another one. He says I can take it to FiOS store on other side of town. I say fine and besides the inconvenience it goes fine.

Try to get bill straightened out. Find out that the chat id is bogus and the rep has no way to recieve my screenshots but she put in a service order which is apparently all she can do and I'll hear back on it within 5 to 7 days. Think we're on day 7 and nothing yet. She does give me a $20 credit towards bill but the difference is closer to $30 and it's only a one time thing so I have a number to call if (basically when) I don't hear from them. I'll try that Friday but pretty much set on cancelling the service after that.

My FiOS on demand also wants to charge me for every TV show ever. Like even basic networks included in my package or old shows like law and order (also on channels on my package). Comcast never did this (maybe cause my dad had a better package but still). The FiOS menus are clunky and slow. And so many ads you have to disable. And they always change the guide to show all the channels ( I don't have) The new Xfinity menus are pretty nice actually and the new remotes are way better plus Netflix built in.

I don't notice that much faster internet to be honest. And the router has to go in the coat closet where the only Ethernet port is. The apartment is small so there is still decent signal but definitely not optimal.

I'd have switched already, but Comcast is slightly more expensive to get the actual channels we watch, like basically HGTV and one other, and I lose HBO and go down to 200mbps speed. Which I'd be fine with but for more money makes it less appealing. Of course, if they don't adjust my bill, then it's basically the same or FiOS is more so I'd cancel either way and live with Comcast.

End rant, vent.

TL;DR FiOS sucks balls. Is there a way to get HGTV and a few other channels on streaming devices? I'm learning we really only need internet anyways
