Anyone else concerned with drop safety issues? That sounds kind of scary for a first gun but the shield was the one everyone seemed to love.

What say you all about night sights? They sound like they could be useful since I feel like that might be the primary time of use in a "situation" but at the same time how detailed is your aiming in a situation like that and obviously in a dark room, that could give away your position if you had that advantage.

I also assume they could be added to most popular guns?

What Ryan said on the night sights, they are good

My perspective was that anything mechanical on the gun that puts it in a situation where it could fire when i don't want it to is bad.  I've had to ship a firearm back to the manufacturer before (in fact i think it was the Shield for another issue) and it's a complete hassle, so i just traded it in on the Springfield

How do you guys feel about safety's. I always just assumed you'd get guns with them. I didn't even know it was an option to not get one.

Also I guess I was reading about tritium sights in that link Justin posted. Would those be the same as night or are those brighter?

All of my guns have had some kind of safety but you can get some models without them.  I like what Springfield brings in terms of the multiple grip and trigger safeties.  There's no "active" push button but when you properly grip the gun and pull the trigger the safeties deactivate.  So you couldn't just pull the trigger and the gun discharges.

Tritium is a good feature of some night sights, it's radioactive and glows all of the time without the need for charging it under lights.  It is also used in some watches.  My XDS came with a fiber optic front sight which isn't really a true "night sight" but it does draw in ambient light in low light situations a bit better so you can at least see the front sight.

My H&K has no safety, but it's DA/SA so the long. hard first trigger pull effectively acts as a safety. It's definitely not the same thing, but it sits in a handgun safe so I'm not terribly worried about it.

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth

Hey guys remember when I said this:

Quote:Rex, I've got, oh, I dunno, no more than 1200 bucks.

Sweet. In that case, buy a Smith and Wesson MOE Mid. It has a lightweight, 5R rifled barrel, a very nice billet lower receiver with Magpul branding, and it's basically ready for you to run and figure out what you like and don't like. When you get comfortable with it, add the optic. When you get comfortable with the optic, you'll probably want a new trigger. (I humbly recommend a Geisselle SSA-E) Then put no less than 1,000 rounds downrange before you change anything else. You may want to change your furniture or muzzle device or controls, but don't do it until you've got 1K under your belt.

Well IF perchance you're in the market, CDNN is blowing these out at freaking $699, which is goddam insane. They're clearing them out since S&W has re-released this rifle as the M&P®15 MOE SL® Mid Magpul® Spec Series™ (jesus what a mouthful) which is just this rifle with Magpul SL furniture instead of MOE furniture. (oh, and it's nearly twice the price)

Salad days are here but they won't last forever.

I've thought about selling my SX3 because it's been fired exactly one time since i bought it. An upgraded AR, liquidate the old one + SX3, figure out where to reallocate may be in the cards

SA can lick my taint (click me)
The M14 is an obsolete platform (and was when it was adopted, #sorrynotsorry)
2 grand and still gotta buy a scope mount
2 pounds (!!!) heavier than an AR-10

I kind of skimmed through that article but I didn't get where SA came into play with the IFMA

Good to know!  I kept seeing that gun pop up in my news feed and was curious about it since i love both of my SA handguns.

Have kicked around the idea of a higher caliber rifle than my 5.56.  The Creedmoor is appealing but I wouldn't even know where to begin on a good avenue for it that doesn't cost $$$$$$$

IMFA is funded by two sources: SA and Rock River.

If you want the DL on something heavier, just hmu. Smile

The best way to own a FiveseveN is the same as the best way to own a Boat.

Picky on ammo, mags suck, needs a "break in" period, which is ridiculous for a $1k gun, lots of them need the slide polished right out of the box, weird safety, etc.
