So my birthday presents came early and I got home before my wife so....happy bday to me!!!
First off was 200 rounds of Hornady ELD (Extra Lond Distance) - Match grade 6.5Creedmoor ammo. Plan to use it at the bangsteel class. Also on the porch was a Plano double rifle case with the pluck-foam liner. The double rifle case is big but it's all it can do to handle the RPR by itself. I feel sure I could fit a shotgun and an ar15 or two ar15s etc in it, but the big rifle is actually more than it can handle. As you can see in the picture I had to cut into the fixed part of the foam to get the grip to fit. It's a really nice case, really sturdy, but the latches are sorta a pain in the ass. It'll only be used to take too and from the range, so not too big of a deal for me. The wheels on the bottom are a nice addition though.

So I see the logo and I'm not surprised, but what did your final optics choice end up being?

It's a Vortex Viper HS LR 6-24x50 FFP (first focal plane). Got a pretty decent price on it at govx. You no approve?

Oh no, me and my Viper PST 2.5-10x SFP MRAD approve wholeheartedly:
The only thing I personally wouldn't care for 100% is the unlit XLR reticle, though I don't think you'll have any trouble with it whatsoever. I just can do Milli math faster than MOA math.

I'm the opposite, I've always shot with MOA and I can wrap my head around that math easier than mil.

Anyone interested in taking either the 1 day or 2 day class with me? Seems like a pretty good value vs. other long range shooting schools, and it's pretty close. Wytheville is where 81 meets 77. For either class whoever is game is welcome to stay at my house (50 minutes from that range) or I'd split a hotel room. I'm looking to do it in either early/mid October or early November. Takers?
I'd love to, but I'd have to wait until next year at the earliest. I don't have a long range stick. Probably will fix that as a winter project, but right now, not in the cards for yours truly. (Unless "long range" == "under 500m")
So my coworker that wants to do it wants to wait till next year (after hunting season) and my boss and his son have to wait until early spring for a break in his sons sports schedule. So if you really plan on getting a rifle together over the winter, or anyone else wants in, just pencil a rough time in your schedule around late march/early April 2018 and I'll schedule it. It's $400 per person and we will get one person free as a law enforcement discount. It looks like they generally do a max of 6-8 per class, so there is room for 1-3 more people if anyone thinks they might want to join in.
Also, ordered a padded shooting mat and a Wieband mini range cube as a rear rest. Should be here by the end of the week.

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth

So I broke my left wrist about 3 weeks ago and had surgery on it last week. For at least the next 5 or 6 weeks, while I do physical therapy and heal, I won't have the strength to rack the slide on my G43. I've had training on one handed reloads and one handed malfunction drills, but I'm still not totally comfortable with it on a gun as small as the 43. So I picked up a Taurus 85 UltraLite to pocket carry for a while. It's comfortable, light, and much easier to reload with a bum hand. Plus, with pocket carry in a jacket or something it can be fired without having to take it out of my pocket. Once I'm all healed up I'll pass it on to my wife to carry in her purse as she's much more comfortable with a revolver than a semi-auto. Plus I've always wanted a snub-nose 38, and for $200, I couldn't think of a reason why not.

It's reassuring to know Rex will consistently be here to speak out against Taurus and Ruger.

I think I might have fallen in love with my uncles Sig P226. Is there anything I should know about it other than buy it if it feels good? After about two mags through it, I was pretty much hitting whatever I wanted at about 20 yards. Seems like some of them have the anchor on them (which is tits), some don't.

Is there anything you should know? Woof, where to begin. The P226 is an old design (not like 1911 old but pretty old) that has definitely stood up to the test of time. The "anchor" is from the "MK25" models, as the seals used P226's in the 80's and the navy adopted the P228 (compact 226) as the M11. So you'll see that too.
If it feels good you're not going to go wrong. if you've got the money, you should look into the Legion models as well as the P226RX. Adding a MRDS after the fact is going to be a lot more money than just buying the RX and I know "Rex I'm not sure I need that" but I didn't think so either and then I bought the 320RX and now i want a red dot on all my pistols.

The cool thing about the RX is that the sights cowitness, so even if the mrds is off, you still have your sight picture AND you can take it off with two screws and they sell a plate to place overtop.
But frankly, I think this is the way pistols are going, it's a way more natural way to aim, 100% easier for noobs, and at-worst is "no detriment" to experienced shooters. Some people who have been shooting a long time can't get the hang of it but literaly everyone else is faster and more accurate with a reflex sight, and the technology is finally here to make the sights not self destruct when the slide reciprocates.
Also it looks cool as hell:

Do you carry a pistol with that sight on it? Or is there like a special holster for it? How much weight does it add?

Yeah. It's high enough on the slide that many (but not all) holsters can accommodate it, especially the strongside, "I don't care if you know I have a gun" holsters that I favor.
Weightwise, I don't know how much weight the slide cut removes to accommodate for the sight, but the Romeo1 uses a magnesium housing, only weighs 24g. So our "worst case" is adding about the weight of about 2 9mm NATO ball rounds.
edit: SIG lists the P320RX and P320 as about the same weight, same for P226. Some of the P226 models are heavier than the P226RX.

Thoughts on Shield 2.0?
Depending on pricing after the hype wears off I may pick up one with the integrated Laser beams.

Anyone want a Shield 9?
I dumped my Shield after the continuous mailings i was getting about drop safety issues and recalls, so personally I'm hesitant to pick up another in the future. Especially when the Springfield competitors are such good guns. I love my XDS that replaced it

I can't quote in Tapatalk anymore but how much for the shield?
Anyone else concerned with drop safety issues? That sounds kind of scary for a first gun but the shield was the one everyone seemed to love.
What say you all about night sights? They sound like they could be useful since I feel like that might be the primary time of use in a "situation" but at the same time how detailed is your aiming in a situation like that and obviously in a dark room, that could give away your position if you had that advantage.
I also assume they could be added to most popular guns?

Night sights are a great idea. Pointing and shooting into the night without some idea of target acquisition is a good way to waste bullets and potentially hit something (or someone) you didn't intend to hit. Also, night sights won't give your position away. They aren't like a bright light on your slide, they just glow. The only way anyone would know you had night sights is if they were behind you...and you would already have a whole other world of problems at that point.
