You do your best to do whatever your parents ask of you while they support you to make things easier on both you and them. Once you're out from under that blanket though you are your own person and they should respect the decisions you make just like you respected theirs when you lived with them.
As for disapproving girlfriends, I'm sorry if she doesn't like something that I'm passionate about she can hit the road.
