On the contrary actually most radios stock do swing to 6-10watts instead of rated 4watts.
Also I wouldnt tune to bottom end unless your SWRs wont get very low if they can no gain from doing it that way just loss on the upper end!
Also I definitely have modded radio that and i got a footwarmer!!! and it can crank
