Steve - are you going there to do a track day, or to race?
If you're that worried about "getting around" people, why not pit in and give yourself plenty of space for open track?
I see this stuff in cars all the time... guy gets stuck behind a train of cars, gets a little red mist, and sticks themselves to the bumper of the car in front of them making all sorts of mistakes while trying to get a point-by.
