Best sounding exhaust note???

it just cracks me up that they're easily as ear-splitting as an uncorked V8 on track

I think high compression 4cyls and rotaries are WAY louder and grating than an open pipe V8

i kind of agree. The v8's are super loud to the point where you can feel them go by, but the most ear-splitting car i ever heard was the yellow turbo FD on VIR's back straight at Corner 6 and a blue/black integra with a side-outlet exhaust at Station 9 at Summit's back straight....both were pretty f-ing loud and not quite pleasant.
