I've read the various debates, and its my opinion that it wont cause any harm to the engine.
The motors are balanced internally, and many of the d-series motors didnt even have a rubber dampener. IMO, that rubber dampener is there for NVH reasons only and that ring of worn out, 112k mile rubber isnt effective at damping crankshaft vibrations. I havent seen any evidence to support that the rubber damps out those vibraitons at the crankshaft's resonant frequency.
