bL1nG!!1!!11 - .RJ - 10-04-2005
- Ginger - 10-04-2005 mad tyte; when are you putting it on? - PDenbigh - 10-04-2005 Looks like a crank pulley - .RJ - 10-04-2005 I guess i'll put it on over the weekend - Mike - 10-04-2005 omgz no more ac! - white_2kgt - 10-04-2005 that's a big supercharger pulley
- navin - 10-04-2005 no CTR n-1 bling ? - .RJ - 10-04-2005 Smaller and lighter..... - Kaan - 10-05-2005 now that motor is going to go! RJ did you read the never ending debate on the harmonics of the motor? i guess you better start looking at spare short blocks and all the propper measuring tools and no greens all the way around arent going to work!
- .RJ - 10-05-2005 I've read the various debates, and its my opinion that it wont cause any harm to the engine. The motors are balanced internally, and many of the d-series motors didnt even have a rubber dampener. IMO, that rubber dampener is there for NVH reasons only and that ring of worn out, 112k mile rubber isnt effective at damping crankshaft vibrations. I havent seen any evidence to support that the rubber damps out those vibraitons at the crankshaft's resonant frequency. - Kaan - 10-05-2005 ok so when are we going to start hand building some B18s and Spec motors for you and Evan. i'll buy another old D block and we can practice there! you do have a garage now! and you know you want to be a motor builder
- Evan - 10-05-2005 yes. Evan definately needs a motor rebuild. 0 for 2 on miata engines. - Kaan - 10-05-2005 I'm serious... lets do it guys. We all used to talk about maybe opening some shop somewhere... lets get dirty... Evan you still have the old motor i take it? we need the propper measuring tools... maybe we all take a class together somewhere... most everything else we have tool wise other than some "specialty" things here and there.... why spend $5-7 on that "spec" miata motor with the extra 5hp... when we can build you one that will be just as good (ok ok i'm dreaming!)
- .RJ - 10-05-2005 I do want to build engines........ I was thinking about starting next year
- Kaan - 10-05-2005 ok well i have a couple spare D heads to screw up... ummm we need to find you some spare busted motors... well some for both of you! -engine stand -measuring tools -specific "special tools"... i think there are some - .RJ - 10-05-2005 The tool investment isnt that much... few hundred. I know what I need and I have an engine stand
- Kaan - 10-05-2005 good, now we build you a nice bench with a cleanable top... and keep at least that corner of the garage clean... and we are golden... and damnit RJ i wana play too! - .RJ - 10-05-2005 Come help me build a bench I'll buy you dinner at the turk restaurant!
- LorenaBeana - 10-05-2005 .RJ Wrote:Smaller and lighter..... Is that your new motto? I think ya'll should totally start up a business. But only if I get to use ya'lls tools, lift, expertise, and company for free!!! (well, maybe in exchange for a batch of cookies or something) - .RJ - 10-05-2005 I'll likely blow up a few motors doing this but it should be fun. The first motor or two will likely be expensive due to the cost of tools and doing things wrong the first time, but I should be able to come out ahead over paying someone else to do it in the long run. There's a great machine shop right down the road from my place that I use for press work (bearings, bushings, etc) and I already started talking to them about some engine work
