Depends on how much damage control Emperor Bernie and company do. If they don't do any for the fans who showed up and they don't somehow compensate Tony George (Indy owner) then I can see the USGP not coming back to Indy next year. I could also see it not going to any other tracks either. None of the other US tracks meet FIA homologation rules and I doubt any promoters would be eager to put their money on the line after some of the recent shenanigans with Formula 1.
If Bernie refunds part or all of the sanctioning fee to Tony George then there's at least a good chance the event will come back next year. However, in the scenario fan turnout will be seriously hurt.
Soooo, if the fans are refunded part or all of their money it won't be as bad. If the fans get a refund and a discounted ticket for next year that would be even better.
It all depends on what restitution is made at this point. If everyone is stubborn it is going to kill F1 in the US for awhile. The harder they try to make it up to the fans the better off F1 in the US will be.
