Tell us why RJ is wrong.
I already made my point. A dyno measures torque and calculates horsepower.
A dyno does not do anything else.
Without an oxygen sensor a dyno will not tell you your a/f ratio. Without logging software a dyno will not tell your ignition timing advance, or how much knock is being encountered, or what the maf/map sensor is reading or how hard the injectors are working. Fuck...without a hookup to your ignition system a dyno won't even give you torque numbers or the revolutions per minute.
My point is this...a dyno is not a tuning tool, which is what RJ has said several times. All it is is a place to do tuning...you could easily do the same work at the track or on the strip. What it does do is measure power.

i mean you both are right.. its for reading HP and TUNING. if you just wanna throw your car up there and get some hp numbers you can do that. it is also used as a tuning tool, hook up air fuel, take readings. add subtract fuel or timing as needed. simulate real driving by applying load. not many dynos do this. from the million dynos i have watched almost all of them have been people chip tuning their cars and using the load bearing dyno as the devise to get readings. but at a car show or dyno day people are usually just getting HP numbers.
also its hard to tune on a dynojet or mustang dyno or brands like that. you cant apply load and you can only tune full throttle (good for a drag car) thats how inline and all the shops dyno and tune their cars. but once you get out on the street and drive NOT full throttle the car will probably run like ass unless you mash it. seen it a billion times.
so yes a dyno is used to read HP and torque.. but its also a very helpful tuning tool.. i think you guys both agree but just are on different pages
