I bought a pair today and i think that they will work perfectly.
The Tyvec coveralls are the better choice. They are pretty strong, can actually be washed and are windproof!!! You do look a little like the Michelin Man if you have lots of layers but you can stay warm.
The list of stuff to bring posted above is pretty good and Laura's suggestion about the chemical hand warmers is good too. Good shoes are a must, because you will be standing all day. My feet get cold easy so I wear thick boots. Bring a backpack or something to take on station with you with snacks and water. You get thirsty out there and will want some. A hat is a good idea and some shades and sunscreen will be useful.
