I hear the 2.7 is not good for enclosed option. Overheats hard with any significant weight. Way worse than the minor one the 1st Gen 3.5's have. Has its own set of problems as well. Great for an open though.
Option 2a: Buy Ecoboost. When your hear it slap trade that crap. I wouldn't actually be afraid of the issue. If you can't stomach a possible issue then buy a Tundra. I bet if you polled timing chain/phaser issue to amount sold it would be a small percentage of overall Ecoboost engines. Just like most complaints. They are always seen the most and blown up the most vs just regular people driving who don't have any issues seldom post they don't have the issue.
It will noise for awhile before it really gets out of timing and pops a cel. People driving with the noise 20-30k+ miles. Just will scratch up the internals eventually.
