I think people buy those cars for the driving experience, looks, sound, brand cachet, performance and for sentimental reason. Each buyer has a different mix of those reasons for buying, and some of those cars are much stronger in some of those categories than others.
The Corvette lacks a lot of those things but is such a big performance bargain that it's hard not to look. On paper I'd take it over a 430, but I was never a fan of the 430's exterior styling anyway. Same way some(most) people hate the 996's headlights.
