I can see why they didn't go that route. Maybe down the road they'll offer some kind of combo unit but to combine them both into one would probably price them out of range for anybody looking for just one of those 2 devices. They were probably also trying to keep the design of the thermostat clean. Having a keypad and alarm integrated would make it pretty bulky for someone just looking for a smart thermostat even if they could make the price competitive.
The security system is $400 on it's own though and only comes with 2 sensors, the hub and 2 "tags". Adding 4 more sensors adds $200. That is pretty steep and I won't be taking that plunge until I'm ready to get a few cameras in the mix because they do take a good bit off the price when you bundle things. For example I could've (and probably should've) added the security system, 1 outdoor camera, 1 indoor camera and 2 extra sensors (4 total) for an extra $600 on top of what I paid. So basically 2 free cameras.
