It does have a traditional battery, a CR2430. I do wish it had CR2032 instead, as I keep those in the house for weapon sights, but if I have to swap the battery every 6 months or so I'm ok with that. Store will swap it for free, but the cells themselves are inexpensive so whatever. The management app has a battery life indicator as well, so you shouldn't get caught napping. 

Better than charging it every day. 

Skagen does have some handsome hybrids, I'm guessing they work in a similar manner.

Rex's version is getting closer to what I've been looking for, but it's still not quite there. Is it really that hard to embed a small LCD/LED screen at the bottom so I can see the subject of the text I'm receiving?

What you describe would be nice, but I think might be technically more difficult/expensive than a "real" smartwatch.
