I completely agree with getting the safer car.

But just as a note for the future, tethers shouldn't be used past like 45lbs. Check your car seat to confirm.

Seat belt anchoring is a giant pain in the D, I have to throw my knee into the seat and pull til I feel a hernia about to happen. The seat still slightly moves, but the car also moves with it.
