A 4Runner has never been considered "plush" - you got one with some nice options but they didn't design it to be nice to ride in. Some friends have a brand new 4Runner Limited(? the loaded one) and it rides poorly compared to like, a Highlander of similar size. That's the price you pay for more off-road capability.
I suppose you're right. My expectations are probably not correct. A 4th/5th gen 4Runner is pretty high class where I'm from so I just equate it with comfort. Rides better than my Tacoma, at least.

These tires are stock size, just the tread blocks make them a little bigger diameter. The spare has lots of tread and would have a negligible affect on the AWD with open diffs. Plus, I wouldn't ride around on the spare for long. Don't worry.
