It is a bit tougher - the eccenric (crank) shaft on the rotary sits much higher, in the center of the motor as opposed to the bottom of the motor on a piston engine.
It can fit - but it takes some massaging of the firewall and transmission tunnel, and some custom fabrication. Might as well use a 1.6L miata and add boost
