 If you buy a Pixel 2 and want to listen to music, BT is the ONLY way to do it, unless you buy whatever dongle they have, but even then you're not getting the nice interface the iPhone has with docks/head units. It's just an aux cord.

I'm fine with everything going USB-C. Since the Macbook Airs have it, I had hoped that the Jesus phone would move away from "stupid and proprietary" to, you know, "open". 

Nothing yet but I can hoooooooooope.

Well the proprietary connector used to be needed because you can't stream analog music over a USB connection, which I'd bet is still the case with USB c.
