I used to have to charge 45 hours not including lunch when I worked for a company with a lot of government contracts. I almost always ended up eating lunch at my desk and working 8-5.
Now I do whatever I want, when I want. Some days I work 6 hours, some days in work 10. Sometimes I have a late night conference call and some days I leave at noon to go to a baseball game. As long as I get my shit done, no one cares.
I busted my ass in my last role at Amazon and it took a toll on my health. I did this of my own accord, because I had something to prove to myself. I stepped outta that job earlier this year and now have one that allows me to be the parent I want to be. I don't make any less, but it will likely lengthen the time until the next promotion. I'm convinced I get paid too much, so that doesn't bother me a whole lot.

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth
